Client-based calculation of favorable elements ("Useful Gods") 八字喜用神经验查法

This method of calculating favorable elements is based on client's real life experience.  The Bazi reader asks his client's subjective rating of his/ her experience for at least five years (the more years the better) based on the following questions:

1.  Do you have better luck in the first half OR second half of year xxxx?  (repeat this question for 5+ years).  Note:  "Year" here refers to solar year.  First half is from February to July; second half is from August to January.

2.  Do you have better luck in AM (noon / morning) OR PM (afternoon/ evening)?

FAVORABLE ELEMENTS

• Better luck in first half of the year-- favorable elements are likely wood and/ or fire
• Better luck in second half of the year-- favorable elements are likely metal and/ or water
• Better luck during AM of the day-- favorable elements are likely wood and/ or fire
• Better luck during PM of the day-- favorable elements are likely metal and/ or water

You need to compare the favorable elements found with this method to the ones based on Bazi theory calculation to see if they match.  If the results do not match, you check if the years under consideration spread across two 10-years luck periods (10YL).  It is also possible that favorable elements of this chart change from one 10YL to another.

In general, client's subjective rating is a more accurate reflection of reality than the result from Bazi theory.  This is because theory cannot take into account of the social and physical environments (Feng Shui) of the client into consideration.  The energies from these environment can affect the balance of a Bazi chart.

Do you jinx your children? 克子女八字

Your Bazi natal chart can reveal a lot about you--  your spouse, your wealth luck, your parents,  your family background, if you are an angel or an ass, and even if you will jinx your children or not  (time to take a Bazi course!)

People with the following Bazi characteristics in their natal Bazi chart may jinx their children:

1.  "Children palace" location is occupation by unfavorable elements (ji-shen).  Hour pillar is the children palace location.  This means children is not good for the daymaster (DM) or they are just "average" and not doing too well.

2.  Children palace is seriously clashed or penalized.  This means children has little or no relationship (karma) with DM. live far away from DM or die prematurely.

3.  Children palace sits on void branch.  "Void" means nothing.  DM may not have any children or children has little or no relationship (karma) with DM or DM cannot rely on them for old age support.

4.  Children palace is occupied by output stars (shi-shen/ shang-guan) for male DM.  Power stars (zheng-guan/ qi-sha) mean children for male.  The arch enemies of power stars are output stars.  Hence when children palace is occupied by output stars implies jinxing children for a male DM-- children do not like staying at home or have poor prospect or simply being "average".

5.  Children palace is occupied by resource stars (zheng-yin/ pian-yin) for female DM.  Output stars (shi-shen/ shang-guan) mean children for female.  The arch enemies of output stars are resource stars.  Hence when children palace is occupied by resource stars implies jinxing children for a female DM-- children do not like staying at home or have poor prospect or simply being "average".

If you are smart, the same analytical technique can be applied to other pillars to examine other family relationship, like month pillar for parents or sibling relationship.  This is equivalent to reading 1 article and get 3 free.  Life is good for you.

Static versus Dynamic Favorable Element ("useful god")

In Bazi or 4-pillars, favorable elements ("useful gods") are the elements that keep a chart in balance for standard charts and "special" for non-standard charts.  When the owner (daymaster or DM) of the chart runs into luck periods with these favorable elements, his luck will be good or at the least, nothing bad happen to him.

However, it is not unusual that someone runs into major disasters, illness or even death during his favorable element luck period/s.  Why?

This has to do with the concepts static vs. dynamic favorable elements. 

APPROACHES TO EXTRACTING FAVORABLE ELEMENTS

Static Model

This is the most popular approach used in most basic Bazi books/ courses and Bazi software because it is easy to learn and program.  It is based on the data from a moment in time (the birthday/ hour) and calculates which elements are needed to balance the chart.  These elements are called favorable elements and supporting elements ("happy god").  Then these favorable elements are used as benchmarks to determine if the future luck periods are good or bad for the DM.  This is simple and logical.  Isn't it?  But it fails to take into consideration of the cumulative effects of luck period elements on chart balance.  This is a main reason that this model does not always make the right predictions. 

Another reason is that if there is/ are interactions between natal chart and luck period.  For example, if fire is favorable according to this static model and you see a bing-fire luck period coming, you may predict good luck comes for this DM.  But if there is a xin-metal in the natal chart or another luck period,  this fire may be converted into water which is likely unfavorable.

Dynamic Model
If we use taking a photo analogy at a certain time (like time of birth) for static model, dynamic model would be taking multiple photos at different points of time  (luck periods) and drawing different conclusions on which elements are favorable or unfavorable for each photo or point of time.

This approach takes care of changing dynamics between 5-elements in a chart.  For example, if water is "favorable" at birth, when a 10-years-luck and annual luck are all water elements, water may become excessive and unfavorable!  This is one of the reasons why one may die during his favorable luck period defined by static model. 

The more of a "good thing" may not be merrier in 5-elements theory.  It is like salt is good for your body, but too much salt will give you high blood pressure.  The "right amount" of a good thing needed to keep the Bazi chart in balance is the key.

There are different levels of "dynamic model"---  taking photos or calculations of birth chart with

1. 10-years-luck only 
2. 10-years-luck and annual luck only  
3. 10-years-luck, annual luck and current month
4. 10-years-luck, annual luck, current month and current day
5. 10-years-luck, annual luck, current month, current day and current hour

But most people would do to 10YL and annual luck level only unless DM is in serious trouble or illness.  It will be too much calculations even for Bazi software.
