Heaven is within reach... even for your pets!

Horace, a Caucasian student of mine, has been a horse trainer for over 30 years.  He had two accidents that forced him to euthanize two valuable race horses in less than 2 years. He was very sad and worried about the afterlife well-being of these horses. He had summoned the service of Tibetan monks to chant and make offerings for the horses, so that they can move on to higher realm in their next lives without being an animal again.

One day, Horace pondered if he can apply a transcendental object like a talisman to prevent misfortune from happening to his horses again.  He has emailed me for help.

From my Daoist talisman collections, I found 2 talismans for protection of farm animals and one specifically for horses.  However, it took me a long time to dig up the picture of the Daoist Horse Deity because the importance of horse had diminished when it was replaced by automobile in the early 20th century.  Horace can setup a Horse Deity altar in his stable for additional protection.

But the Daoist talismans do not handle the afterlife well-being of the horses.  This normally involves chanting, karma purification, prayers, self-cultivation by the beneficiary (in this case, the horse) or benefactor (monks chanting).  Even humans can hardly do these tasks themselves, not to mention animals or your pets.

Is it possible to find an object or talisman that can protect, purify karma, prevent reincarnation to animal or ghost path (at least to human path) and hopefully offer passage to heaven-- with minimal or no requirement of effort on the animal?  If such object exists, it should also work for people who are too lazy or unable to chant, pray or go to church/ temple, or someone who is an atheist.

After several weeks of research, I have found a branch in Esoteric Buddhism which offers easy afterlife liberation simply by touching, seeing, listening (to mantra chanting), carrying or passing-by a copy of special mantra  (藏传佛教佩戴见、闻、尝解脱).

I have specially designed a multiple functions talisman card that combines "liberation upon seeing" and "liberation upon passing-by" the talisman.  Below is the front and back of the card:

-Click to enlarge, right-click to copy-

With this card,  Horace only needs to tape this card at the stable entrance, his horses (and any human) will be blessed with afterlife liberation when passing through the gate without making any effort.  Additional benefits will be gained if these beings also see the Manjushri Bodhisattva Auspicious Diagram.

You can give your pet the same benefits by flashing this talisman around it or simply tape the talisman inside your house and everyone will get the benefits without making much effort.

This Manjushri Bodhisattva Auspicious Diagram was drawn by a Tibetan rinpoche (living buddha) who encourages people to duplicate and distribute this diagram to benefit as many sentimental beings (humans, animals, fishes, bird, insects and etc.) as possible.   You will accumulate good karma credit by distributing it,  posting it in high traffic area or  "flashing" it to animals/ fishes in the markets before they are slaughtered or released .  Simply right-click your mouse to capture the picture into your computer and make your own hard copies.

FAQ
Q:  I can't believe getting into heaven is so easy, is this a hoax?
A.  Your doubt is reasonable.  There is a 50/50 chance that nothing happens when we died-- no heaven, hell or afterlife.  But you hardly do anything or pay anything to get this "afterlife insurance", your choice is a no-brainer.  Besides, these benefits are well-documented in an ancient Buddhist classic and not a modern invention.

Q.  Is this talisman unfair for those who really work for liberation by praying, doing good work, going to church/temple and etc.?
A:  Information is liberation.  I have done the hard work for you.  This talisman only guarantees the beneficiary of no reincarnation to animal or hungry ghost path and hopefully passage to heaven.  But heaven has multiple levels.  It does not specify which level of heaven one will go.  I guess this should be the lowest level since the beneficiary has not done much to deserve higher level.  However, being the doorman of heaven is 10k times better than being a human or a pig on earth (not to mention hell) -- no tax, no Obamacare and all you can eat buffet.  Pal, get your feet into the heaven door first and worry about promotion later.

Q:  Have you seen evidence of this type of talismans working?
A. Yes, my old man was an atheist.  I had put a "touch upon liberation" talisman with his burial and he goes to heaven (don't ask how I know).  Another case was a horse with a "touch" talisman when it was euthanized.  I don't know if it goes to heaven except knowing it is happy wherever it is.

Chinese calligraphy-- "Reality changes with thought"
Q:  Do you mean this talisman will work even if the beneficiary does not believe in religion?  Why?
A.  If it works for animals which are likely "non-religious", so it will also work for atheists.  The "magic" is not on the receiver but the administer or the person who apply the talisman to the being.  A famous Buddhist saying, "Reality changes with thought (heart)" 境随心转.  People with affinity with me will grasp this meaning.

Q.  Can I do all the "bad" things and still get the benefits of this "afterlife insurance"?
A:   You don't want to play trick with deity (in this case, Manjushri Bodhisattva, the wisdom deity).  You get double penalties when you knowingly doing "bad" things thinking the talisman will cover your behind.  Also capital offense like murder is not excusable with or without this talisman.

Q.  How do I "activate" or maximize the effect of this talisman?
A:  The Manjushri portion of the talisman gives you quite a few benefits.  One way to get the Universe to exchange energy with you is to make a donation to your favorite charity to get the flow of energy started.  Keep making donations when you get more benefits to keep the flow going  You may wear out your welcome mat sooner or later if you just keep getting from the Universe and not giving something back.  The energy flow will stop.

Little Miracle x 6

Oh!  Monday again.  But I hope the following photo story will make your day.

The following story was reported on Oct. 25 (2013) in a Chinese blog.  A young couple travels to the Shinjang, the Northwest part of China.  They had stopped by a windmill generators areas to take some photos.

While taking a photo, a little white animal ran towards the couple.  They thought it was a cat because it is pretty small.

It is a white dog and looks skinny but friendly to the couple.  From the body shape,  "she" is a nursing mother dog!   The couple feel sorry for her weak physical state.

After walking along a few minutes, mother dog ran away from the couple.

Mother dog ran a few meters and then turned around to see if the couple follow her. She then wagged her tail as if signaling the couple something.  She had repeated this ran and wagged actions a few times.

She ran toward the wood.  The couple suddenly realized that the dog may want to show them something inside the wood.

The couple followed the white dog into the wood.

Mother dog showed them her litter of puppies hidden in the wood!

These puppies seemed to have not seen any human being before.  They were scared.

Mother dog comforted and reassured her puppies.

The couple thought that snow season will come soon and these puppies will perish if they do not act.  They also thought that the mother dog seek their help to care for the puppies.

The puppies ran around to escape being picked up by the couple and their friend.  Surprisingly, mother dog did not stop the couple from picking up her puppies.

It took them over an hour to catch all the puppies.  "I love a man holding a puppy".  The wife wrote.

The wife use a jacket to improvise a bag to hold the puppies.

3 puppies in the bag.  More to come!

5 lovely puppies in the bag!

Mother dog had watched the couple picking up her puppies without making a noise.  It seemed she trusts the couple to handle her puppies.

Suddenly, mother dog laid down, as if she felt relieved that the puppies are taken care of.

Let's pick up the mother too or we will need a cow. She looks at ease right now.

The good Samaritans took the dog family to their car.

Mother dog was very thirsty.  She drank half a bottle of water.

A nice folk gave the couple a box to carry the dog family.

4 + 1 puppies-- how lovely!

"Sit tight!  Car is moving.  Have a happy ride."

They went to a restaurant and fed mother dog a cake.  She is too weak and hungry to eat meat at least for a few days.

The puppies had drawn some admirers!

And more admirers.

Mother dog watched over and fed the puppies at the same time.

Take a walk and water break at a rest area.

"Your puppies are still here."

Smiling puppy?

More smiling puppies!

POSTSCRIPT:  The original title of this blog photo essay is "Happenstance:  Great touching maternal love of a mother dog" (奇遇记:狗妈伟大的母爱触动心灵).  It solicits help for the transportation and placement of these puppies.  Readers have offered suggestions and adoption proposals.  Most are happy to see mother dog and her puppies saved from winter snow and  their notorious dog-eating countrymen.

A homeless dog coming into one's family is considered as "good for wealth" luck by the Chinese.  However, the opposite is for homeless cat.  But being a cat is safer than being a dog because cat is not eaten as often as dog by the Chinese.  You win some and lose some.

May all homeless pets are as fortunate as this dog family.

What is Feng Shui-- 10 years before and after

10 years ago, Penn and Teller's cable TV show "Bullshit!" had a segment on Feng Shui in USA.

In this episode, the producers had invited three Feng Shui practitioners to audit the same house.  All the practitioners seemed to be practicing traditional Chinese Feng Shui but giving conflicting advice.  The impression that Penn and Teller had given to the audience was:  Feng Shui is moving furniture if not bullshit.

You can watch this "Bullshit" episode here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OjeFb-bzt8k

Fast-forward 10 years--  "Lookout", a consumer watchdog type program of ABC TV network here has a segment on Feng Shui last week.  The producers have invited 5 "Feng Shui" practitioners to advise on the Feng Shui of a Manhattan apartment in New York City.

Unlike Penn and Teller's merciless presentation, the "Lookout" is more "civilized" or objective and let the audience form their own opinion about Feng Shui.

The focus of  first practitioner is "green" or placing plants virtually everywhere in the apartment and also charges a lot of "green" (US$800- 2500), forest not included in his fee.  The program did not show him using any measuring equipment like a luopan or compass.  Even the client exclaims that she will know the guy in plant store very well.

The second practitioner has used a Trifield EMF meter to do her "Feng Shui" business.  She has used the meter to measure ghost energies and then "cleanse" it with her copper bells and will power or "healing frequency".  Obviously this is not really Feng Shui but spiritual or space cleansing.

The third practitioner did not use any measurement equipment either, but she has used her hands mostly-- moving and throwing stuff away.  This is "decluttering" or house-cleaning.  A cleaning lady probably will cost a lot less.

The fourth practitioner is a bona-fide Chinese Feng Shui master whose call to fame was doing Donald T's Feng Shui work.  She has done some luopan measurements and  given some "poison-arrows" and energy talks.  But the program did not give her much time to explain what was going on.

The last one is the "mirror" guy and did not do any measurement either.  This follows the western tradition of using mirrors and crystals extensively for Feng Shui work.

This program has given only 5.54 minutes to "showcase" 5 practitioners and different ways of doing Feng Shui, for sure injustice may be done to them.

You may watch the actual video here:
http://abcnews.go.com/Nightline/video/feng-shui-19502809

In Penn and Teller's program, all the Feng Shui practitioners were doing traditional Chinese Feng Shui. 10 years later,  in the "Lookout" program,  only one out of five practitioners is real Chinese Feng Shui practitioner.  Therefore, Chinese Feng Shui is losing territories to other practices masquerading as Feng Shui, at least in USA.

THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK
Will you be surprised when you go to a "Wealth-building" or motivational seminar and find out it is actually a Feng Shui or Bazi fortune-telling seminar?

This already is happening.  Some smart dudes in the Chinese metaphysics circle "borrow" a page from Anthony Robbins and the "Attraction" crowds.  They repackage their Feng Shui and Bazi seminars as tools  to gain immense wealth and motivation.

Sooner or later, the Chinese dudes will get even with those who have encroached their turf.

New Release: Imperial Qi-Men-Dun-Jia 4G

Originally I had planned to use 3 months to upgrade Imperial QMDJ 3G version to 4G.

It takes almost 3 years and 1.5 million keystrokes later--- here is Imperial QMDJ 4G.

It takes so long because of my old habit in graduate school-- before I start anything I will review all the available literature in that field.  I have checked all possible QMDJ materials under the sun for this upgrade, so that you don't need to waste time doing it.

It turns out most of the "new" QMDJ materials shown up in the last few years, especially from a certain country, are mostly junk or works of fiction.  I have wasted lots of time on them and ended up sticking with classic QMDJ materials and actual field testing.

This Imperial QMDJ 4G edition is 3 times bigger than the original 5-days QMDJ live seminar manuals taught in 2005.  I have created different versions to make this course more affordable for people who do not need all the bells and whistles.  There are 3 flavors of Imperial QMDJ:
  • Practical Imperial QMDJ 4G with 12 hours of video  (US$999)
  • Advanced Practical Imperial QMDJ 4G with 16 hours of video  (US$1299)
  • Professional Imperial QMDJ 4G with 21 hours of video  (US$1499)
  • Please check  www.kenlaifengshui.com for special pricing that will expire on May 15, 2013.

Smart Visual QMDJ Chart
A major change in the 4G edition is in the 1080 QMDJ pans or charts section. I have designed the new bilingual "Smart Visual QMDJ Charts" that almost do the thinking for the user.  User gets the following critical info with a quick glance:
  • leaders of 9-stems, 9-stars and 8-gates
  • Fu-yin info of stems, stars and gates
  • Fan-yin info of stems, stars and gates
  • auspicious directions (the "red star")
  • symbols to show if an element is auspicious (happy face) or inauspicious (bomb) or semi-auspicious (sad face)
  • color-coded and number-coded to show the element nature of each item in the chart
Smart Visual Charts make QMDJ chart interpretation a child's play by giving a meaningful visual representation of the chart. It also reduces the instructional time needed to explain it.

With a little practice, one can get raw results on a QMDJ reading within 2 to 3 minutes including time needed to convert the hour to binomial (jia-zi) and locating the Smart Visual Chart in the Field Operation Manual.

Another major change is the addition of numerous examples-- from 60+ to 130+ examples, depending on the version.

Numerous QMDJ "indicators" or "external signs" are added to the Advanced and Professional version.  It is probably the biggest collection of indicators in English though this is more for bragging rights than practical applications.

One valuable addition is the "Field Experience" section based on actual testing.  Quite a few lineage grade secrets are embedded in these field experience of actual QMDJ applications.  This section alone probably worth 50% or more of the purchasing price.

QMDJ birth chart reading is added to the Professional and Advanced version with a 120 years QMDJ 10K Calendar for checking QMDJ birth charts.

There are numerous new topics added in the 4G edition. The following comparisons (click to enlarge) will show you some details:

The interactive DVD menus of the Professional Imperial QMDJ 4G are shown below. The Advanced and Practical version are subsets of the Professional version.

Secrets of Qi-Men-Dun-Jia Indicators

I start teaching QMDJ since 2005.  Throughout the years, the most popular question on my Imperial QMDJ courses is:  does your course cover Qi-Men ke-ying (克應) or indicators?

Qi-Menindicators” are defined as the effects and environmental clues appearing during the application of QMDJ method.  These indicators are divided into “static indicators” for events that may happen due to QMDJ and “dynamic indicators” for material objects, animals, scenes, colors, people, emotions, activities, weather, walks of life and etc., seen during the QMDJ process.

These indicators are similar for different dimensions of QMDJ though certain patterns can be deduced based on the symbolic contents and elemental nature of individual elements. There are 4 major classes of indicators:
  • 9-stems indicators
  • 8-gates indicators
  • 9-stars and hour indicators
  • San-qi and palace location indicators
There are more combinations of indicators in terms of different dimensions of QMDJ, like in terms of palace, time, day, season, month and etc.  It can really get out of hand if all indicators from every QMDJ dimension are taken into consideration (not to mention if indicators from the interactions between different dimensions are also considered).  You will have a long list of possible indicators to “justify” your QMDJ application is working.

These indicators, if seen, are supposedly showing that your QMDJ application is working or in the process of working.  The more indicators you see, the more “powerful” is your QMDJ energy in this application.

Contemporary teachers do not place too much attention for these indicators, largely because many QMDJ indicators or imageries were written for ancient agrarian societies, like horse-drawn carriages and farm animals, which are hard to see in modern societies.  However, some people (especially the “travelling salesmen”  or "Jiang-hu" type) like to emphasize or sensationalize the role played by indicators to make QMDJ sound dramatic and mysterious.

When being questioned about the lack of farm animals in modern cities,  some of these teachers will be proud to proclaim that they have "modernized" these ancient indicators by replacing, for examples, cow or any farm animals into "4-legged animals" and horse-drawn carriages into automobiles.

The energy or qi of a cow (chou, earth in nature) is different from a cat (yin, wood in nature) or a pig (hai, water in nature).  Similarly, the energy imprint of a horse-drawn carriage is different from a car running on petrol.

Are indicators original QMDJ components or redundant additions made by people from later periods?

QMDJ was developed for battlefield situations.  You can determine if  the indicators below will show up in a battlefield with two hostile armies there?
  • Indicators for Kai-gate:  You will see a noble person (helpful people or mentor) or celebration or banquets.
  • Indicators for Ding stem: Pretty woman in colorful dress riding a horse/car in yin day, in red dress in yang day
  • Indicator for Si hour: Fisherman, fishes, soft-shelled turtles, bare-chested and bare-feet person carrying something
  • Indicators for Kan Palace: Person dressed in black, sound of drum; if seeing person/s with colorful dress, then it stands for major wealth coming.
Anyone with half a brain can figure out that most of these indicators are likely not showing up in battlefield situations.

The truth is— regardless of modernized "substitutes" , when one has a boatload of “indicators”, a few will show up for sure! This is more a psychological boost designed by some later QMDJ revisionists to increase people’s intention energy in the process.

We have been applying QMDJ with minimal or no reference to indicators for years.

Anyway, the Professional version of “Imperial QMDJ 4G” has the most extensive coverage of QM indicators in the English world.   Other versions will have sufficient coverage on this topic.  It is for the "peace of mind" of some students and not really needed.

The Latest Feng Shui Hammer-- Tilt-O-matic?

In my 2007 blog article "Feng Shui Hammer and Xuan Kong Flying Stars", I had written:

"If you give a kid a hammer, pretty soon he will try to do everything with a hammer...In the Feng Shui world today, the Feng Shui hammer is Xuan Kong Flying Stars (Feng Shui). To some people, XK Feng Shui is the universal key to any Feng Shui problem."

Six years later, I have discovered a new trend for another version of "Feng Shui Hammer" that is not restricted to one Feng Shui school or method.

This "hammer" generalizes the Feng Shui remedy of door-tilting to different aspects of Feng Shui. I call this method "tilt-O-matic" because its core method is tilting anything towards the so-called "auspicious qi" or angle.

Door-tilting itself is no major secret and easy to understand-- if your door sits on an inauspicious angle, you tilt it to the nearest available auspicious angle.  Ideally the nearest angle to the current one will match the requirements for as many Feng Shui methods (like Bazhai, San-He, XKDG and etc.) as possible.

In certain southeastern Asian countries where large population of ethnic Chinese reside, you can see tilted doors easily.  My Feng Shui pals in these countries told me that door-tilting is almost a must in any Feng Shui audit or your clients will think they don't get their money's worth.

The next derivative from door-tilting is stove-tilting, used mainly in Bazhai Feng Shui.

Some inventive folks out there bring out the "tilt-around-the-house" motto and generalize this method to tilt balcony doors, sliding doors, apartment doors, doors inside a house or office or even tilt a balcony-- applying tilting to whatever Feng Shui methods like Flying Star, XKDG and the like.

Their next top secret invention probably will be tilting house windows and maybe even garden walls. I guess toilet seat, fridge door, bath tub and water basin are all fair games for them.

"Ken, how valid is this tilting approach?"

I don't know when I do not get paid to answer or argue for controversial topics like this one.  But I can tell you that when I visit many ancient towns and villages in China, including the emperor's home (Forbidden City), I have not seen a tilted door yet.

I have seen tilted doors that were done in the last 10- 20 years in China and Hong Kong.

Chinese Feng Shui emphasizes balance and symmetry.  Anything tilted will disrupt the balance state. Tilting does not seem to match these basic Feng Shui principles.

In Feng Shui, main door represent the mouth of a house.  A tilted door is like a person with a crooked mouth.  It is the "form" for stroke resulting in a crooked mouth.

There are teachers who swear by the tilted door remedy and also the ones who are apprehensive of door-tilting.  My own sifu are mostly against using it for aesthetic and safety reasons.  Non-residential buildings probably can have tilted doors because people do not stay there longer than 8- 10 hours and likely are moving around.  My sifu do not recommend tilting door for residential properties because people sleep there at night and absorb whatever qi coming in.

On a psychological level, a tilted door is a constant reminder to the residents that "this is an auspicious door that will bring me good luck". This daily positive affirmation will enhance the intention power of the residents to make things "happen".

"Ken, do you do door-tilting Feng Shui remedy?"

Yes, I do "green tilting" that does no damage to the wall or environment and does not need a carpenter. However, I do it only when there is no alternative.

"Can you elaborate?  Does it work?"

Sorry, I cannot elaborate. This is a little secret in my school. Somehow it works too.
