Hidden meanings of void branches in Bazi

"Void branch" is based on the theory of when matching 12 earthly branches to 10 heavenly stems, there will be no match for the last 2 branches. These two branches are called "void branches". They carry rich information about the individual or "daymaster" if void branch is found in his natal chart.

"Void" means disappearing, unreal, not solid, losses, not there, leaving, cut by half and also "exists in spirit or title only" (not physically exist). When a star representing a relative is in a void branch, it means this relative is either weak, chronically ill or passed prematurely.

Traditional Bazi calculates void branches in terms of year and day pillar. Modern people are likely look at void branches in terms of day pillar only.

Void branch meaning can be extracted from two levels:

I. MEANING FROM PILLAR LOCATIONS

Void branch in year pillar (年上空亡): no blessing/ inheritance from older generations; also means tough or difficult teen or little or no care/ love during childhood
Void branch in month pillar (月上空亡): no support from sibling/s or siblings are weak or chronically sick; low luck during young adulthood
Void branch in day pillar (日支空亡): spouse is a weakling or no help from spouse; unstable marital relationship; also stands for low luck during middle age
Void branch in hour pillar (时柱空亡): gets no help from children or children are weakling or die prematurely; low luck during old age.

II. MEANING FROM 10 GODS/ TRANSFORMATION STARS

Resource star in void (印星逢空): low academic achievement, especially in this void is in year or month pillar.
Power star in void (官星逢空): problem in career or getting government post; problem getting/ keeping husband for female
Wealth star in void (财星逢空): little or no relationship with father or father dies prematurely; hard to find or keep wife for male
Output star in void (伤食空亡): little or no luck with fame/ blessing; unstable marriage; few children
Children star or palace in void (子女星或子女宫逢空): hard to conceive or children die prematurely or chronically sick.
Sibling star or palace in void (比劫星或比劫宫临空): no sibling or sibling die prematurely or chronically sick.
