2015 Grand Duke Talisman Charity Drive

This post is based on last year's "Grand Duke Talisman charity drive" with updates for 2015.

If you have read my old message about functions of Grand Duke, you know that there are two Grand Dukes watching over your shoulder, counting the good and bad deeds that you have done and executing rewards and misfortunes accordingly. This is a major rationale that donation to get your Grand Duke talisman.  When your talisman is grounded with a charitable deed, GD is less likely to execute any misfortunes due from your karma account. Another rationale for donation is the exchange of energy-- using a charitable deed in exchange of protection energy from Grand Duke.

2015 GRAND DUKE GENERAL YANG XIAN
2015 is Yi-wei or year of wood-ram. Grand Duke for the year is General Yang Xian who was a military officer in Song Dynasty (960- 1279).  Yang was interested in alchemy and metaphysics since his childhood.  He had traveled and lived as a hermit in various holy mountains.  A government official Master Zhu had invited Yang to stay in his home for a few years.  Yang could predict future very accurately.  One day, after a banquet, Yang suddenly told Zhu that he will leave the earth. Yang had died later without any sickness.

Two years later, on his way to the capital, Zhu ran into Yang suddenly.  They had chatted like old acquaintances.  Zhu had inquired about what had happened, but Yang did not answer.  later, Zhu had returned to his hometown and went to check Yang's tomb.  He had opened the tomb and found the tomb was empty.

2015  GRAND DUKE TALISMAN
Yi-wei or year of  wood-ram can be challenging for people with Ji-chou or xin-chou pillar in their Bazi charts because these pillars "fan-yin" or "battle" with both the stem and branch of the Grand Duke.  It is especially serious if your day-pillar is  Ji-chou or xin-chou pillar because it means something may happen to you or your spouse.

Here are the four groups of people who need Grand Duke Talismans:
1. "Fu-yin" or same animal sign of Grand Duke 值太岁-- people with RAM sign
Birth years: 1919, 1931, 1943, 1955, 1967, 1979, 1991, 2003
Symptoms: obstacles, stagnation or running "reverse" instead of forward and not suitable for travels.

2. "Fan-yin" or "clashing" the animal sign of Grand Duke 冲太岁-- people with OX sign
Birth years: 1913, 1925, 1937, 1949, 1961, 1973, 1985, 1997, 2009
Symptoms: big fluctuations in luck, accident, sickness, surgery, losing competitions/wealth, moving, death, changing job

3. "Hai" or "harming" the animal sign of Grand Duke 害太岁-- people with RAT sign
Birth years: 1912, 1924, 1936, 1948, 1960, 1972, 1984, 1996, 2008
Symptoms: backstabbing at work, and success slips away in the last minute

4. "Xing" or "penalizing" the animal sign of Grand Duke 刑太岁-- people with DOG sign
Birth years: 1910, 1922, 1934, 1946, 1958, 1970, 1982, 1994, 2006
Symptoms: legal problems, accidents, injuries by knife, disloyalty from lover, subordinates, coworkers and friends (penalty of ingratitude)

GRAND DUKE TALISMAN FOR FENG SHUI REMEDY
If your house faces Wei mountain or SW1 direction, you need to put up a Grand Duke talisman facing that direction and avoid construction, earth-digging and demolition there.

If your desk or wherever you sit for an extended time faces Wei mountain or SW1 direction, you can put up a Grand Duke talisman there for protection.  It is not auspicious to face the Grand Duke direction.  It weakens your competition power in business/career and examinations. However, if you arrange your seat so that SW1 will be at your back (and put a Grand Duke talisman there), you will get Grand Duke as support and is good for competition and business.

GRAND DUKE TALISMAN OFFERS
This year we use digital delivery of Grand Duke Talismans because "snail mail" is slow and prone to losses.  Ken Lai will create a GD Talisman with user name, city and country imprinted, bless and "activate" individually on screen digitally.  This unique activated GD file will be emailed to you.  You can print as many copies as you want (but for one unique-named person only).  In this way, you can replace soiled or damaged talismans.  You can carry one talisman in your wallet and post one in your home and/or office for Feng Shui remedy.  You get more "mileage" from a single donation this way.

The offer is the same as last year: your charity donation of US$30 or more to any legitimate local or international charity will get you a specially blessed Grand Duke talisman. Here are some examples of donations already done:

• homeless shelter
• Save-the-Children (www.savethechildren.org)
• UNICEF (United Nation Children's Fund)
• Smile Train (www.smiletrain.org)
• children hospital
• food shelves/soup kitchen
• Red Cross
• animal shelter/ humane society

Donation made to help alleviate an urgent human/ animal need or suffering (e.g., feeding the hungry, tornado/ typhoon victims or homeless) gets you more karma credits than donation for public good or improvement of public life like church/ temple or public radio/TV.

If you are worried about privacy issues and future solicitations-- please be assured that I will not email you in the future. You will send me NO money. You send your money directly to your favorite local or international charity.  You do NOT need to purchase any additional item from me or anyone else. No future solicitation of any type will be sent to you.  This offer is for people who have no access to Daoist temples.  Please support your local temple if you have access to one.

If you need more than one Grand Duke Talismans, here is the discount schedule:
--one talisman US$30 donation (US$5 if you are unemployed/under-employed)
 --two talismans US$50 donation ($10 if unemployed /under-employed )
 --three talismans US$60 donation ($15 if unemployed /under-employed )
(you may go to www.xe.com to calculate the equivalent of US$30 to your local currency)

Talisman that is grounded with a charitable event works more effectively because it has an exchange of one type of energy for protection energy.

To claim your talismans and application instructions, please forward your donation receipt with the talisman recipient names and address to kenlai88@yahoo.com with the following info:
1.  user name:
2.  city
3.  country
4.  printer info:  color?   black and white?
5.  paper size used:  eg.  Letter, A4, etc

Get your Grand Duke Talismans before Feb. 4, 2015 if possible.

Thank you for participating in this drive.

Minimal Feng Shui Guide for 2015 year of Wood Ram

Yi-wei or year of Wood Ram will start in a few weeks.  You may want to fix the regions that will become "dangerous" to fix or dig after Feb.3, 2015 now.

This year I make things "visual" by putting the locations of Grand Duke, Sui Po and San Sha directly on the 24 mountains template with the annual star chart for the Year of Ram.

2015 Annual Chart and Feng Shui Sha locations.
Click picture to enlarge

Annual chart is based on Purple White Method which holds that 1, 6, 8 and 9-star locations are auspicious. 2-black sickness and 5-yellow disaster star locations are inauspicious.  Therefore, for current year, Southeast sector with 2-black sickness star is the second inauspicious.  West sector with 5-yellow disaster star is the most inauspicious, especially one of the San Sha is also there.

Tai Sui or Grand Duke sits on Wei mountain or SW1 and Sui Po or Year Breaker in Chou mountain or NE1.  You definitely do not want movements and especially "moving earth" (digging or construction) in these regions.

If the annual star chart of your house has 2-sickness star in the SE, you need to put metal or coin-solution cure there, especially if you have a door there. Same scenario and remedies and precautions if you have a 5-yellow disaster star in the west sector of your house.

"Minimal Feng Shui" is to fix only 2-5, 5-5, and 9-5 star combinations in regions with activities. Also keep these areas clean and no piles of clutters or garbage (because this becomes the "form" to activate the bad stars).  You don't need to put up remedies or Feng Shui monsters in all 9-palaces of your house, especially in region of no activity like storage room and guest room.

OTHER PRECAUTIONS:
Grand Duke is at Wei mountain (SW1) -- minimize movements and avoid construction or digging. If your house is facing Wei mountain , your house is said to be "Chong" or clashing Grand Duke. You may want to put a Grand Duke Talisman there for protection or at least minimize movements there. It will help your competitive power if you sit with your back facing Grand Duke (but NOT yourself facing GD!)

Sui Po or year-breaker is at Chou mountain (NE1)-- avoid construction or digging.

San Sha or 3-killings are at Shen (SW3), You (W2) and Xu (NW1) mountains -- avoid construction or digging.  You may face San Sha locations but not sit on these locations with your back facing them.

5-yellow disaster star at Dui palace (W)- avoid construction or digging and movements. San Sha sits in Dui palace with 5-yellow-- definitely be very careful when you do constructions and movement here!

Yang nobleman sign for this year is Shen (monkey).  Yin nobleman is Zi (rat).

You need to do a good date-selection if you need to do construction in any of the above locations (mountains/ palace) or better doing it before end of the current year (horse year).

People with ox and ram zodiac sign should avoid seeing putting corpse in coffin or burial for this year.

Happy New Year!

Ken Lai

This cat can wait

A few evenings ago, Jerry Wang of Taiwan had filmed and posted a 24 seconds video of a cat waiting for her "mom"-- an old lady with signs of osteoarthritis, who picks recyclables like bottles and paper on the streets.  This video generates over 100K views within 48 hours.  Here is the video link:

https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=4536493626355

In the video, a cat with black and white hair was meowing eagerly while waiting for someone at a cross-junction with traffic.  The cat's tail was waving at "full mast", signaling her happiness of seeing "mom" approaching her in a few seconds.

The cat's owner, an old lady, was staggering across the junction while pushing a cart with recyclables.

"This feline had been there for a long time, waiting for someone." Wrote Jerry.

"Their interactions-- had stopped the activities of all the people in the junction, gazed at the old woman and her cat."

When the cart was moving near the cat, the cat had turned around and walking elegantly with her "mom" into the alley.

This short video could have elicited heated arguments on social injustice and poverty.  Instead, people see beyond the negative and appreciate the bonding and  simple love between two species.

Go adopt a homeless cat in your local animal shelter.

Karma Credit Windfall of the Year

Hi Pals,

The  message below wakes me up from my extended summer hibernation.  It shows you the best deal for getting huge positive karma credit with minimal effort.

According to Tibetan Buddhism., whatever good deeds (and bad deeds too) that you do during a lunar or solar eclipse will be multiplied by 700 billion to 100k billion times

Whether you believe in Tibetan Buddhism or not, this is a "one to billion" deal that is too good to miss. Your "good deed" can be as easy as chanting a simple mantra or as "painful" as donating a few dollars to your favorite charity (and getting the karma credit for 700- 100k billion of dollars, even beating Bill Gate).

This is the best opportunity to dedicate substantial merits from this good deed to your karma creditors, your ancestors, your aborted children, suffering souls and the likes.

Karma creditors are the primary source of one's suffering and misfortunes. Appeasing your karma creditors will make your life easier and may be richer.

If you don't believe in this karma credit thing, you at least be a good boy or girl during the time periods specified below. So that you will not be in big trouble if this is the real deal.

Best Wishes!

Ken Lai

Dear Dharma Brothers & Sisters:

I urge you to chant Buddha mantra during total lunar eclipse period on Oct 8, 2014 and partial solar eclipse on Oct 23, 2014. Any deeds, good or bad, committed during a lunar eclipse period can multiply up to seven hundred billion times, while a solar eclipse up to a hundred thousand billion times. Please take advantage of this rarest opportunity to cultivate great virtues and clear obstacles from previous innumerable lifetimes by chanting Buddha mantra of your choice.

For convenience, consider chanting Chenrezig (Guanyin) mantra "Om Mani Padme Hum" for as many times as you can. Chenrezig practice essentials have been concisely compiled for you here. After the chanting session, dedicate your virtues to all sentient beings, which will further augment the total benefits received by all.

Chanting must be performed during the course of eclipse:
Total lunar eclipse on Oct 8, 2014 at 08:17-13:32 (UTC)
Partial solar eclipse on Oct 23, 2014 at 19:38-23:52 (UTC)

Remember to convert the UTC to your own timezone. For example, if you reside in Hong Kong/ Malaysia/ Singapore, then use UTC+8 hours (= Oct 8, 2014 at 16:17-21:32 and Oct 23, 2014 at 03:38-07:52). You can also convert the timings to your timezones at www.timeanddate.com.

May you and sentient beings benefit from the immeasurable virtues that you cultivate.

Jersey Colors and World Cup Wins-- First 8 Matches

Note:  In 2010,  I had found a strong correlation of 60% or more on the influences of jersey color on World Cup wins.  The followings are "green materials" (recycle)  with updated statistics for the first 4 matches of the World Cup in Brazil. (updated June 15 with  results of 8 matches)

Chinese 5-elements theory states that the world is made up by the interactions between 5 type of energies;  metal, water, wood, fire and earth.  The relationship between these 5 types of elements are as follow:

• Metal is represented by white color. It is controlled by fire (red), drained by water (blue or black) and nurtured by earth (yellow or brown).
• Wood is represented by green color.  It is controlled by metal (white), drain by fire (red) and nurtured by water (blue or black).
• Water is represented by blue or black color. It is controlled by earth (yellow or brown), drain by wood (green) and nurtured by metal (white).
• Earth is represented by yellow or brown color. It is controlled by wood (green), drain by metal (white) and nurtured by fire (red).
• Fire (red) is represented by red or purple or orange color.  It is controlled by water (blue or black), drained by earth (yellow or brown) and nurtured by wood (green).

Here are the rules for picking the winning team:

• If that team's jersey color controls the opponent's jersey color (example, red will lose to blue) or
• If that team's jersey color drains the opponent's jersey color (white will lose to blue)

How does it work?
Jersey color stands for part of the energy field surrounding the players.  By controlling or draining the energy field of your opponent using appropriate colored jersey, you can enhance the energy level of your own team and weakening the energy level of your opponent.  There are other Chinese metaphysical methods like Qi-Men-Dun-Jia that can increase the odds of  winning by 10- 15% through the use of directional energies.

Plugging this 5-elements theory to the first 4 matches, we have the following results:

FIRST 4 MATCHES

1.  BRAZIL vs CROATIA  (Jersey: yellow vs red)

-- yellow is earth and red is fire.  Earth drains fire.  The 5-elements theory predicts Brazil will win.
Result:  Brazil 3,   Croatia 1

2.  MEXICO vs CAMERON  (Jersey: green vs yellow)

-- green is wood and yellow is earth.  Wood controls earth.  The theory predicts Mexico will win.
Result:  Mexico 1,   Cameron 0

3. NETHERLANDS vs SPAIN (Jersey: blue vs  white)

-- blue is water and white is metal.  Water drains metal. The theory predicts Netherlands will win.
Result:  Netherlands 5,   Spain 1

4. CHILE  vs  AUSTRALIA (Jersey: red vs yellow)
-- red is fire and yellow is earth.  Earth drains fire.  The theory predicts Australia will win. (Incorrect prediction)
Result:  Chile 3,   Australia 1
=======================================
Prediction accuracy for first day:  75%

SECOND 4 MATCHES

5.  COLUMBIA  vs  GREECE  (Jersey: yellow vs  blue)

-- yellow is earth and blue is water.  Earth controls water.  The 5-elements theory predicts Columbia will win.
Result:  Columbia 3,   Greece 0

6.  URUGUAY  vs  COSTA RICA (Jersey: blue vs  white)

-- blue is water and white is metal.  Water drains metal. The theory predicts Uruguay will win. Incorrect prediction.
Result:  Uruguay 1,   Costa Rica  3

7. ENGLAND  vs  ITALY  (Jersey: white  vs blue)

-- blue is water and white is metal.  Water drains metal. The theory predicts Italy will win.
Result:  England 1,   Italy 2

8. IVORY COAST vs  JAPAN (Jersey: yellow vs blue)
--  yellow is earth and blue is water.  Earth controls water.  The theory predicts Ivory Coast  will win.
Result:  Ivory Coast 2,   Japan 1
=======================================
Prediction accuracy for second day:  75%

Similar to 2010, Chinese 5-elements theory's predictions are almost 75% accurate for the first 8 matches of the World Cup.

You may enhance your World Cup betting with consideration of jersey colors.

May the best team win (Coaches:  Make sure you pick the winning color for your team jersey)!

New Revenue Source for Feng Shui Practitioners

Someone posted a link about the Singapore Government chasing down Feng Shui masters for refund on their work for the Singapore Flyer (ferris wheel) in my Facebook page.
http://newnation.sg/2014/05/govt-seeking-refund-from-feng-shui-masters-as-spore-flyer-still-bankrupt/

This is scary for people in the Feng Shui ecosystem (if not egosystem).  But I have doubt about the authenticity of this article for 2 simple reasons:

1. Singapore Government is one of the few smart governments left in this world.  For sure they would have caught the Feng Shui masters or at the least, frozen their bank accounts.
2. Anyone with half a brain will know that Feng Shui is only part of the equation for personal or business successes.

"First fate, second luck, third Feng Shui, fourth good deeds, fifth study, ........"   is the famous Chinese saying on the ranking of important attributes of destiny.  Feng Shui is ranked number three only.

Economic forecasters do not guarantee results. Business consultants do not guarantee successes. Even weather forecasters with advanced equipment like doppler radar cannot guarantee accurate forecast.  How can one expect a few Feng Shui audits or designs to replace marketing research/ planning and management practices?

Can Feng Shui handle changing business environment, physical environment (Feng Shui) and competitions? Local Singaporeans figure these factors out without blaming Feng Shui.

Thanks to this "Feng Shui lynching" article, it gives me a new revenue idea for our hardworking (and maybe starving) Feng Shui folks --we can offer "Feng Shui pinata" service for professionals in marketing and management.

"Ken, are you kidding?  You mean clients can beat us up when their business sucks?"

Kind of.  We offer the service to be the "fall guy" of business people's marketing or management flops. So they can blame their failures on Feng Shui and keep their jobs.  If their business is a great success, they can keep all the glory to themselves and mention nothing about the Feng Shui work done.

If you offer this "Feng Shui pinata" service, please send 10% royalty to Ken Lai's PayPal account or any charity of your choice.

Feng Shui Secret of Disability

A young man with disability in my city got a call from Walmart:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/06/12/man-with-disabilities-walmart_n_5489333.html

Here is a Feng Shui  secret:

Business or family with a disable member will always somehow makes "it" (a living).  It works even with crappy Feng Shui.

Hence if you run a business, hiring a person with disability will be an insurance against going out of business.  Helping people to achieve what they could is good business (and karma).  Good karma attracts positive energies and business.

Taking care of a family member/relative or friend with disability is as good as taking care of yourself.

In some religious belief systems,  people with disability are sometimes believe to be the emanations of deities from heaven. They often come to earth in the forms of undesirable physical appearances or sickness to test our humanity.
