Could losing wealth really fend off disasters or is this simply a "method of spiritual victory" (aka "Spirit of Ah Q" in Chinese language)? Is there any theory to support this claim?
Actually, in terms of Bazi's 5-elements Nurturing and Controlling theory using 10-transformation stars ("10-gods"), "losing money to neutralize disasters" is valid under the scenarios listed below.
However, one needs to understand the nurturing and controlling relationship between the 10-transformation stars to grasp the logic discussed below.
The following diagram summarizes this nurturing and controlling relationship:
Examples: Output star nurtures (blue arrow) wealth star and controls (black arrow) power star. Wealth star nurtures power star and controls resource star.
I. DAYMASTER (DM) USES SHI-SHEN AS PROTECTOR
"Daymaster" is the chart-owner. Power stars (zheng-guan/ qi-sha) control or attack DM. Hence power stars are the symbols for disasters and misfortune. In Bazi, -output star or shi-shen controls power stars. Ideally, -output star should have power stars under control to avoid disasters. But if strong wealth stars show up, it will turn the whole chart upside down. This is because output stars nurtures wealth stars and the latter in turn nurture power stars, making disasters (power stars) even stronger. The -output protector becomes collaborator of the power star attacker! Wealth stars become the mediator between -output and power stars and form an alliance to drain and control DM. This means major disaster!
From the above analysis, disasters are attributed to strong wealth stars. If there are no strong wealth stars, disasters and misfortunes may not exist. Wealth stars are represented by our cash and money reserves. Hence, if DM can create "losing money" events (charity donation, buy real estate/ expensive items...) to weaken his/her strong wealth stars to the point that wealth stars are not able to perform the mediating function, disasters are neutralized or at the least, minimized.
II. DAYMASTER USES ZHENG-YIN/ PIAN-YIN AS PROTECTOR
Resource stars (zheng-yin/ pian-yin) nurtures DM. Power star will attack DM if no mediator stands in-between them. Resource stars protect DM from power stars by draining or as mediator between DM and power stars because power stars nurture resource stars. Hence, resource stars play the role of mediator by turning power stars into collaborator to boost the strength of DM.
Wealth stars nurture power stars and control resource stars. Hence when strong wealth stars show up in the system, they control and stop resource stars performing the mediator and protector functions. Wealth stars further nurture and strengthen power stars to make the potential disasters more aggravating.
From the above analysis, disasters are attributed to strong wealth stars. If there is no strong wealth stars, disasters and misfortunes may be weak or not exist. Hence, if DM weaken his/her strong wealth stars by "losing money" (buying real estate/ shopping spree, charity donation, and etc.) to the point that these stars are no longer able to control or prevent resource star from performing the mediator and protector functions, disasters are averted or neutralized.
III. DAYMASTER USES BI-JIAN/ JIE-CAI AS PROTECTOR
Peer stars (bi-jian/ jie-cai) strengthen DM. Power stars controls peer stars. The act of controlling peer stars drains power star. If peer stars are as strong as power stars, the latter will be "tied up" and cannot attack DM.
Peer stars controls wealth stars. Wealth stars nurture power stars. When strong wealth stars show up in the system, peer stars will be drained for attacking wealth stars. Furthermore, wealth star will nurture power stars. Consequently, power stars become more powerful whereas peer stars are weaker than before. Peer stars become too weak to counter these power stars. DM will lose the protection from peer stars and suffer the control or attack of the power stars.
Similar to the analyses of section I and II, all the problems are attributed to the appearance of wealth star. The same "losing wealth" remedy should be used to eliminate or weaken wealth stars.
The difference between I and II situation is: In the -output star scenario, wealth stars turn -output star into mediator to attack DM. In the resource star scenario, wealth stars stop resource star from being a mediator and protector. In the peer stars scenario, wealth stars weaken the peer star protector and enhance the power star aggressor.
The best way of "losing wealth" is through charity donations because one can feel good and perhaps getting some karma credits for future good luck.
