Ba-Sha or "8-killings" Door in Feng Shui

Note:  The following is an excerpt from  my "Practical Door Feng Shui for Wealth" course.

There are “forbidden” regions in the design of house-facing and door-facing which may not be taught in some Feng Shui schools.  Examples are Ba-sha (“8-killings” ) and void lines (covered in past blogs).

BA-SHA DOORS

Ba-sha door is based on 5-element theory.  It stresses that the sitting and facing of a house should not be “ke” or subdued by door or road/ water with opposing 5-element nature.  For example, if a house sits on gui-water mountain, you don’t want to set a door at a region with earth element nature like chen-earth mountain.

The code for Ba-sha is as follow:

“Kan dragon, Kun rabbit, Zhen monkey

Xun rooster, Qian horse, Dui snake

Gen tiger and Li pig are “Ba-sha” (8 killings).

Houses and tombs will be finished when running into it.”

坎龍坤兔震山猴，巽雞乾馬兌蛇頭；

艮虎離豬為八煞，宅墓逢之一齊休。

Note:  Color here show the elemental nature of each location.

* "Sha" includes power-post, dead trees, T-junction, incoming/ outgoing water or road, well, wall-knife, roof-top corner and etc.   ** XU (NW1) is also a Ba-sha location for Kan house/ tomb.

              

Ba-sha theory has many applications besides door locations.  If the Ba-sha location of a house or tomb sees any of the followings: dead trees, T-junction, roof-top corner,  well, wall-knife sha, incoming/ outgoing water or road, tall object--  is also considered a violation of Ba-sha.

EFFECTS OF BA-SHA VIOLATION

-- premature deaths (esp. younger males)

-- accidents, surgeries and cancer

-- dwindling luck

-- declining prosperity/ losing wealth

Ba-sha is a major Feng Shui formula sha (Li-qi sha) with a pretty accurate track record.  Every Feng Shui practitioner should know the application of Ba-sha. You do not want to ignore this Ba-sha location when designing or buying a house or tomb.

Mega Form Feng Shui Battle: China vs. Japan

Some Chinese wonder why Japan had always won the battles with China from the late 19th century to the 1940's.

One clue to this question lies on the shape of China's map before and after 1945.

The shape of China map looked like a mulberry leaf when Outer Mongolia was still part of China.  Japan's map looks like a silkworm.

But in 1945, Russia's Stalin had pressured the then Chinese Nationalist Government to let Outer Mongolia become independent.  In return, Stalin had promised not to aid the Chinese Communist Party.

In August 8, 1945, Outer Mongolia becomes independent. Without Outer Mongolia,  the shape of China map looks like a rooster with its beak pointing at Japan, the silkworm.

Whether it was a coincidence or not, seven days later (August 15, 1945), Japan had surrendered to China unconditionally.

SIGNIFICANCE OF FROM MULBERRY LEAF TO A ROOSTER
Form Feng Shui is the study of  how land forms or environmental shapes of land and buildings affect the well-being of its residents.

From Form Feng Shui perspective, land shape can influence the perception and behaviors of the people reside on it subconsciously.

By nature, silkworms munch on mulberry leaves. Therefore, Japan the silkworm had feasted on China the mulberry leaf successfully.  That is, Japan had won most of the battles with China before 1945 when China's land form was still looked like a mulberry leaf.

When China's land shape becomes a rooster with its beak pointing to Japan the silkworm, the table has turned.  It is nature's law for roosters to eat worms.

Hence, Japan has the subconscious fear of being pecked on by the rooster neighbor.  China the rooster subconsciously drools on this potential worm dinner.  In reality, Japan currently feels the biggest threat is from China.

Misplaced Feng Shui Fountain Can Kill you

Other than money and sex, this heading should get your attention.

Feng Shui fountain is used to "enhance" the wealth water star in Flying Star Feng Shui.  Water symbolizes wealth in Feng Shui and moving water to model flowing wealth energy.  In Period 7 (1984- 2003),  the wealth star is the 7-white metal star.  For Period 8 (2004-2023), it is the 8-white earth star.

However, 7-white metal star becomes the "robber" star after 2003.  Make sure you remove your Feng Shui fountains designed for the 7-white metal star enhancement if you forget to do so.

Some people get very excited when they are told or read that Feng Shui fountain can enhance their wealth luck with proper placement.  They may think that Feng Shui fountains are like oil diggers, the more diggers (or fountains) you put out, the more oil (or wealth) one can extract from the universe.

Some people try to put as many Feng Shui fountains inside their houses as possible.  But how?  Because normally one can only put one fountain in the current Feng Shui Period's wealth star location, it is difficult to put more than 2.

By using the concept of  "Every object has its own Tai-ji (center, universe)",  every room in a house can be treated as a single Feng Shui entity with its own wealth star location.  In Feng Shui jargon, some people use the small Tai-ji of individual room within a house to squeeze in more Feng Shui water fountains.

I have seen people put water fountain in their bedrooms.

"Ken, cut the craps.  How does Feng Shui fountain kill us?"

According to Yi-jing (Book of Changes),  "Auspiciousness, inauspiciousness, fortune and misfortune are attributable to movements."

Every house inevitably has some sectors or "palaces" that are auspicious and some sectors that are inauspicious. Basic Feng Shui principle is to arrange movements or activities in auspicious sectors and minimize movements in inauspicious sectors.

By putting a Feng Shui fountain in almost every sector of a house, even using the small Tai-ji trick, one will invariably put movements in a sector that should have minimal movements-- like sectors with 5-yellow disaster star, 7-robber star or 2-sickness star.

When annual star like 2 or 5 lands on sector with 2 or 5 with a running water fountain, it could activate the negativity of 5-yellow disaster star.  Star combinations of 2-5, 5-5 or 5-2 are especially dangerous. Someone can get seriously sick or accident or even death.

One may misplace numerous non-movable Feng Shui paraphernalia like ki-lun, dragon-turtle, calabash or the likes without serious consequence.  But not with moving water.

Effects of moving water can be swift and merciless.

I have seen some people do DIY water-dragon (water drains network) and become sick or broke for years.

Borrowing from the "no-smoking" message from the late Yul Brynner:  "Don't play with moving water,  whatever you do, just don't play with moving water."

Hire an experienced Feng Shui practitioner to handle your moving water issues. If you want to keep it simple, remove all Feng Shui fountains from your house.

Emperor's New Clothe: Mountain Edition

In my previous blog,  I wrote about green tombs in China.  This edition shows how some barren mountains in China become green.

At first, I think all these "greening" of stuff is a recent Chinese invention.  Upon further research,  it is a quite "old" practice.  The following photos pretty much "tell" the story itself.

In May, 2004, in Dìngxī city of Gansu Province, a barren hill was painted green for a local celebration.
2004年5月，甘肃定西市陇西县仁寿山公园，为了迎接农历初八的朝山会，将没有长草的山体涂上了绿颜料。

In June, 2004, Shenzhen city government (Guangdong province) had spent RMB$1 million (US$160k) to make a mountain "green". 
2004年6月，深圳芙蓉工业区的芙蓉尾山上，当地政府实施山体刷绿工程，整体耗资100万元。

In February, 2007,  in a county of Yunnan province, the broken part of a mountain due to mining was painted green.

In October, 2008, a town in Guangdong province had spent over RMB$100k+ to buy green nets to cover up barren hills, arid land and illegal structures, to cheat on satellite inspection of "re-green"  (afforestation) effort. 

2008年10月，广东东莞横沥镇六甲村，为应付卫星复绿检查，花费十几万购买绿网，铺在荒地、山石及违建上。

In July of 2010,  in a county of Yunnan Province,  tombs along a hill were either painted green or covered up with a green or black camouflage net.  Reporter found out this was due to a afforestation campaign. 

2010年7月，云南昆明市宜良县，从宜良县城往狗街路上，两侧山上坟墓墓碑要么被刷上一层绿油漆，要么披上绿或黑的伪装网。记者采访获知，这是宜良在推进城乡园林绿化工作。

From fake eggs to fake Rolex, it is no surprise that we can find fake green mountains in China. Faking a green mountain is much quicker than planting trees and waiting for the mountain to turn green naturally.  Local government officials can claim credit much quicker and earn political capital for further advancement.

Everyone knows the new green clothe is fake except the "emperor",  At the minimal, this reversal of "emperor's new clothe" practice has been going on since 2004.

What is the connection between fake green mountains and Chinese metaphysics?  

In the last 20 years, we have seen many "new", "long lost" or "family heirloom"  metaphysics theories and manuscripts from China.  They cover topics like Bazi, Yi-jing, Feng Shui, QMDJ and the likes.  How real or authentic are these "new" export from China?  

The answer to this question is not optimistic if you see Chinese citizens swarm Hong Kong and Japan to buy basic necessities like baby formula and even rice.  They do not trust China products sold in China largely due to safety concerns and counterfeit problems.

People argue about the business ethics or the lack of business ethics in China is a major cause of China's counterfeit problem.  But this is beyond the scope of this blog.

Emperor's New Clothe: Tomb edition

In 2014, the Chinese town government of Doumenzhen (Shaoxing, Zhejiang Province, 绍兴斗门镇杨望村) had ordered the cadres of Yuecheng Village to "re-green" (“复绿”, afforestation) a hill that is occupied by tombs.

That hill is so overcrowded with tombs that it becomes arid with few trees and look "ugly".  It does not reflect well on the local government because national Highway 329 passes through that area and the tombs and barren hill are visible.

The Chinese Communist Party is democratic and considerate.  They gave the local people 3 choices without bothering them for their input:
1.  relocate the tombs 
2.  bulldozer the tombs and plant trees on top of it
3.  remove the tombs, rebury the remains deep below and plant trees ("re-green") on top

The town government officials would inspect and evaluate the result of this "re-green" effort.

No budget is given for any choice.  The locals have to pony up money to do it.

Local villagers did not like any of these choices. Some tombs are pretty old to relocate, not to mention Feng Shui concerns.  But they cannot disobey the great socialist government.

The hill is so barren that it will be difficult to plant trees even if the tombs were removed.

The cadres focused on the "re-green" part and suggested the villagers to paint the tombs facing the Highway 329 green, so that the hill looks "green" from the highway.  The villagers agreed and collected RMB$50,000  (US$ 8000) to buy green paint.

150 tombs facing the highway were painted green.  Even the tombstones were painted green.  It looks as if they let their ancestors celebrate St. Patrick's day or pretend they were immigrants from Ireland (green is the theme color of St. Patrick's day).

This is another proof of "the wisdom of working people" according to Chairman Mao.

Someone has taken pictures of these green tombs and posted it on micro-blog.  A reader comments:
"You ungrateful descendants give your ancestors a green hat!".

"Give someone a green hat" is the slang for sleeping with someone's wife.

In terms of Feng Shui,  the villagers may give birth to little green man (just kidding!).   They may have some strange skin problems or wood related problem like liver sickness.

Let the bank "rob" you or you "rob" the bank?

It's over a month and no one answers the questions from my previous blog on "Mad rush to deposit money..." in the Spring Begins Day.   Below are my answers to close this case.

Can you figure out the logic behind why specific hour for deposit money is good for person with certain animal sign? Is the logic correct or not?   

Answer:  The "very auspicious" option is based on "6-combinations" or "semi-San-he (3-unities)" between depositor and hour animal signs.  The "auspicious" options are just between animal signs that have no clash.  The logic is marginally correct. Combinations assume "friends" and friends will help you with money.  This is a very risky assumption because friends will also take your money and run. In Chinese metaphysics like Bazi, friends are under the category of Bi-jian (比肩,parallel) and Jie-cai (劫财,wealth-robber).  The act of depositing or "giving" money to your banker is like being "robbed".  To turn the table around, you should withdraw money and not deposit money during the Spring Begins Day.  So the banker gives you money or he is being "robbed" by you.  This is a symbolic gesture of "making money" during an auspicious day.  Anyway,  you still look stupid waiting in a long line to deposit or withdraw money during that day.

Does wearing a red top make sense or just BS?
Answer:  Red color means celebration in Chinese culture.  Wearing a red top is for your banker to celebrate you bring him the money.  If not, this is just BS.

Can you guess the background of the person(s) who cooked up this table? 
Answer:  Either someone with bank stocks or the banker association.

Can you make this "animal sign/ deposit" table more logical and comply with rules of  Chinese metaphysics?  So that it may somehow work.
Answer:  Yes, it is pretty simple.  In Chinese metaphysics, what you control is your wealth.  By applying this principle to animal signs like the following:

For people with:

• Rat or pig sign,  deposit/ withdraw money during snake or horse hour or day
• Tiger or rabbit sign, deposit/ withdraw money during dragon, dog, ox, ram hour or day
• Dragon, dog, ox or ram sign, deposit/ withdraw money during rat or pig hour or day
• Snake or horse sign, deposit/ withdraw money during rooster or monkey hour or day
• Monkey or rooster sign, deposit/ withdraw money during tiger or rabbit hour or day

With the above data, you do not need to force yourself lining up to deposit or withdraw money in a Spring Begins Day. You can do it in any one of your wealth days or wealth hours.  Here is a little secret for you:  your chance of winning lotto or slot machine will be higher if you withdraw your money during your wealth day and hour and use that money to buy the lotto or play the slot  (To keep the winning coming, donate 15- 25% of your winning to charity).
