Do you have any "hidden benefactor"? 暗祿

Sometimes, we have seen people in very difficult situations, such as life and death or financial crisis.  Suddenly, out of nowhere someone shows up to get them out of their predicament whether they know this person or not.

In Bazi, we call these helpers "hidden Lu" star or hidden benefactors.  The literal meaning of "Lu" means official salary.  The generalized meanings are blessing, wealth and status.  This star also means unexpected help and wealth from someone that the person is not familiar with.

To check if you have this hidden benefactor star in your chart, go to bazi-calculator.com and key in your birthday to calculate your birth chart.  Find out your daymaster (DM, in the first row of day column, the "HS" row).  Read the table in the left side.  Then check the second "EB" row for the following "Hidden Lu" element.  Please check example below.

DAYMASTER AND HIDDEN BENEFACTOR STAR TABLE

For example, someone born in June 19, 2025 @19:10 has the following Bazi chart.  This is a Ji-earth daymaster.  You check the table above for Ji-earth and found the Hidden Lu star is Wei (ram).  This Bazi chart has a Wei in the day-pillar.  So this person has a Hidden Benefactor star.

People with the Hidden Benefactor star are likely to have "white knight" or helper showing up when they are in extreme difficulty or crisis.  Unlike other nobleman stars, helpers offer this help or resource expect no return.  So they are also called "noblemen".

The setbacks and misfortunes suffered by people with Hidden Benefactor star in their early life tend to be of short durations.  They will likely enjoy life and blessing, especially during old age. 

Hidden Benefactor star is strongest if located in month pillar, followed by day pillar.  If someone has two or more of this stars in his chart, he gets help throughout his life.  If both year and month pillar have the presence of this star, DM (chart owner) is likely the heir or second generation of the rich or powerful (officials).

Who will help you soar or self-actualize? 什么人旺你

Note:  This is the 701st article of this blog.

"Wang 旺" is a verb in Bazi that is difficult to translate into English.  It literally means "make prosperous" but has deeper meanings than simply material gains.  Abraham Maslow's "self-actualization" probably is a closer appropriation of "wang".

"Wang" in Bazi context means people who will help you to be successful and realizing your potential.  The people who "wang" you are also known as "noblemen 贵人" or helpful mentors.

How do you identify the people who "wang" you?   You may locate them from:

1.  the palace or pillar location of your natal chart:  The followings are representations of each pillar location:

• Year pillar:  Parents/ older generations, superiors, teachers
• Month pillar:  Siblings, peer group, coworkers
• Day pillar:  Day-master (stem, self), spouse (branch)
• Hour pillar:  Children, junior, younger generation, students, subordinates, employees

For example, if your teacher has given you critical assistance to achieve your life goals, then the representations in year pillar are the people who will help you soar.

2.  the 10 transformation stars ("10 gods") represented by the helpful persons:  

• Peer stars (bi-jian/ jie-cai):  siblings, peers, friends, coworkers, business partners
• Resource stars (zheng-yin/ pian-yin):  older generations/ relatives, grandparents, mother, teacher
• Wealth stars (zheng-cai/ pian-cai):  Zheng-cai is wife for male; pian-cai is mistress for male and father for both sexes; wealth stars also represent customers or clients.
• Power stars (zheng-guan/ qi-sha):  Zheng-guan is:  superior, boss, authority figure, husband for female, daughter for male; qi-sha is:  son for male, second husband or lover for female
• Output stars (shang-guan/ shi-shen):  Shang-guan is:  junior generation, student, employee, subordinates, grand-daughter/ grandmother for male; son for female; shi-shen is:  junior generation, subordinate, student, daughter for female.

For example, if your uncle is very helpful to you, this means people represented by "resource stars" are likely helping you to be successful.

Other methods to find out who are helpful to you include:

1. The six-combinations of your Chinese zodiac animal sign:  for example, if your animal sign is horse, people with ram sign are more likely to be your friends and helpful people.
2. The 3-unities-combinations of your Chinese zodiac animal sign:  for example, if your animal sign is monkey, people with rat or dragon sign are more likely to be your friends and helpful people.
3. People and transformation star ("10-gods") represented by your favorable element ("useful god"):  for example, if you are a metal daymaster,  earth is your favorable element and earth is your resource star, then older relatives or people with strong earth are your helpful people.

Who are your helpful friends or enemies

"Helpful friends" (also called "nobleman") are people who are likely to nurture and rescue you when you are in trouble.  "Enemies" (also called "mean people" sometimes) here refer to people who may consciously or unconsciously make your life difficult, steal your opportunities or backstabbing you.

A simple method of finding out who are your real friends or enemies is comparing the  the Chinese zodiac animal birth signs of you and the potential friends, to see if they "clash", "hai or damage" or "penalize" each other.  Below are the check list. 

Animal pairs that clash each other 相冲属相: 
-- Rat and horse, ox and ram, tiger and monkey, rabbit and rooster, dragon and dog, snake and pig.

Animal pairs that damage each other 相害属相: 

-- Rat and ram, ox and horse, tiger and snake, rabbit and dragon, monkey and pig, rooster and dog.

Animal pairs that penalize each other 相刑属相: 
-- Rat and rabbit, ox, ram and dog (3-penalities), tiger, money and snake (3-penalties), pig and pig, rooster and rooster, horse and horse, dragon and dragon.

There are folk beliefs that hold:

• Dragon and tiger fight 龙与虎会斗
• Tiger and tiger fight  一山不容二虎

However, using animal sign to predict who is your pal or enemy is a little simplistic.  A more accurate method is using Bazi or 4-Pillars to check which element (metal, wood, water, fire or wood) that your chart needs most.  You may need a Bazi reader if you do not know Bazi. Then check the following list:

IF YOUR BAZI CHART:
-- likes metal:  monkey and rooster people born in autumn are your "nobleman"
-- dislikes metal:  monkey and rooster people born in autumn are your "mean people"

-- likes water:  rat and pig people born in winter are your "nobleman"
-- dislikes water:  rat and pig people born in winter are your "mean people"

-- likes wood:  tiger and rabbit people born in spring are your "nobleman"
-- dislikes wood:  tiger and rabbit people born in spring are your "mean people"

-- likes fire:  snake and horse people born in summer are your "nobleman"

-- likes wet earth (chen/ chou):  dragon and ox people born in 3rd or 12th solar month are your "nobleman"

Bazi: Who will benefit you most?

With Bazi knowledge, you may be able to figure out who will help you or benefit you most if you know their animal signs or birthday.  The term "nobleman" is used in Bazi to represent one's helpful person, mentor and supporter.

1.  People with Chinese zodiac animal sign that combines with your animal sign
-- you are likely to get along with them easily and help each other out.   For example, if your animal sign is rat, people with ox, monkey, or dragon are likely your helpful people.  Below are animal pairs that combine with each other.

• rat and ox      
• tiger and pig
• rabbit and dog
• dragon and rooster
• snake and monkey
• horse and ram
• rat and dragon

3.  People who come from the direction represented by your favorable element are likely to be your "noblemen".   For example, if wood is your favorable element, people coming from east and southeast of your city (or birth place, country) are likely your "noblemen" (Note:  you need Bazi knowledge or find a Bazi reader to figure out your favorable element). 

4.  The transformation star ("10-gods") represented by the favorable element ("yong-shen" or "useful god") of your chart is your "nobleman" or helpful person.    For example, if you are a metal daymaster (DM) and wood is your favorable element-- wood stands for "wealth" for you.  Wealth also represents wife, lover and father.  So these people are likely helpful to you.  Below is the people represented by corresponding transformation stars:

How to find your helpful people and directions

In Bazi, there is a symbolic star called "Tian-yi Nobleman" that stands for helpful people available when a person is in trouble or danger.

The calculation of Tian-yi Nobleman requires knowledge of Bazi and construction of a Bazi natal chart.  This may be too much for some people.  Here is a simple method to figure out your noblemen or helpful people based on your Chinese zodiac animal sign.

10 birthdays that attract helpful people or mentors

"Birthdays" here are in terms of 60 binomials.  This also means day pillar in a birth chart.

 A Bazi chart consists of year, month, day and hour pillars.  Day pillar represents the daymaster (DM) and his/ her spouse.  For example, Geng-wu, Geng-metal represents the daymaster, Wu-fire represents the spouse.

There are 10 day pillars that can get helpful people or mentors easily, especially with the help of spouse.  They are listed as follows:

Jia-zi:  Zi-water stands for resource ("yin" 印) for Jia-wood DM.
Yi-hai:  Hai-water stands for resource ("yin" 印) for Yi-wood DM.
Bing-zi:  Zi-water represents power ("guan" 官) for Bing-fire DM
Ding-hai:  Hai-water represents power ("guan" 官) for Ding-fire DM.
Wu-zi:  Zi-water stands for wealth ("cai" 财) for Wu-earth DM.
Ji-hai:  Hai-water stands for wealth ("cai" 财) for Ji-earth DM.
Geng-wu:  Wu-fire represents power ("guan" 官)for Geng-metal DM.
Xin-si:  Si-fire represents power ("guan" 官)for Xin-metal DM.
Ren-wu:  Wu-fire stands for wealth ("cai" 财) for Ren-water DM.
Gui-si:  Si-fire stands for wealth ("cai" 财) for Gui-water DM.

Wealth ("cai" 财), power ("guan" 官)and resource ("yin" 印) are considered the three auspicious or desirable items in Bazi.  DM sits on any one of these transformation stars ("10-gods"), if favorable, means at least a helpful spouse for him/ her.

You have a one in six chances of getting one of these day pillars.

4-Pillars Perspective on Mate-selection

The following is a common 4-Pillars question on marriage:

Chou (ox) and Wei (sheep) are basically the same--- earth, so clashes between the two are not that antagonistic like monkey (shen-metal) clashing tiger (yin-wood).

Also Chou is "metal storage" and Wei is "wood storage". If a person or DM needs such storage, it will work well with a spouse who brings it to the pot.

I also found, in some rare cases, a person's clashing animal sign may also be the "nobleman" of the person.

Besides, animal clash is only part of the equation. You still have to look at the day pillars between the potential couple-- to see if there are clashes or combinations. You prefer combinations in this case. It means attraction and getting along between the two. Clashes mean fighting.

Then come to the most important part-- (contents are posted in "4P Bootcamp" discussion list).

This 4P principle on mate-selection can also be applied to business partner selection and hiring of employees or looking for your "helpful people".

A Chinese peasant and a U.S. president

This is an amazing story of fate and destiny that I have read from a Chinese newspaper . Even though I forgot the exact names and dates in the story, but it will not affect the main theme.

In late seventies, a Chinese peasant, Farmer Li discovered the tomb of the first emperor of China, Emperor Chin, who had unified China and built the Great Wall. This peasant hauled some of the relics that he had dug up and walked for two hours to the provincial Archeology Department.

The head of the department was stunned by the finding and tried to offer a reward to this peasant.

All he could find was his monthly salary of around $40 (about US$ 5 ).

The tomb of the first emperor of China, with thousands of terracotta soldiers guarding the tomb, is regarded as the 8th wonder of the world. The Chinese has built a museum around the tomb.

The peasant is an honest farmer, he dared not to pocket the reward money himself. So he had turned over the money to his commune leader.

The leader had left him 75 cents, or about a dime (US$ 0.10).

The person who had discovered the 8th wonder of the world was rewarded with a dime.

This poor peasant continued to live in his straw hut.

Twenty some years later, President Clinton visited the tomb in 1998.

President Clinton was amazed by the tomb's collections. Then he asked, "Can I see the person who had discovered this tomb?"

The Chinese officials were baffled. Why on earth someone wanted to see an old peasant? They
sent people to the village where the peasant lived.

The peasant, Farmer Li, in his seventies, still lived in his straw hut.

When President Clinton saw the peasant, he said, "Sir, can I have your autograph?"

The peasant only drew three circles on Clinton's autograph book.

"Wow! Amazing! You have discovered this tomb by drawing three circles. I should learn drawing circles more often." Clinton exclaimed.

In reality, this peasant was an illiterate. It is a local custom to draw three circles when one does not know how to sign.

The Chinese government suddenly realizes the cultural value of this peasant. They had appointed a famous calligrapher to teach him how to autograph.

After two months, the old peasant can sign his name beautifully like a calligrapher.

Postscript: I have visited Xian in 2007 and to the terracotta tomb. There many "Farmer Li" there signing for money! They all claim to be the cousins or co-discoverers of the tomb.

“I want to go to school”

Many of us in the United States are probably enjoying big Thanksgiving feasts today. Amid our material abundance, I hope the following story will bring inspiration to our life. Here are the links to the same story with different perspective:

This story reminds me of Farmer Li, the farmer who had discovered the tomb of the first emperor of China. Farmer Li had remained almost anonymous and poor until President Clinton met him. Li did not do anything to make thing "happen" and just let fate took over.

Ma Yan, on the other hand, does not quit or surrender to fate and keep fighting. Things changed when she met her "helpful person" from an unlikely source.

Some people in Ma Yan's village are mad at the French assistance. They all ask, "Why Ma Yan and not me? I'm just as poor. She is just lucky."

We may try to explain Ma Yan's good fortune as fate, destiny or even good Feng Shui, that she may sleep in "Wen Chang" (academic) position of her home.

Ma's teacher explains, "It could be luck partially. But given the same opportunity to others, nothing would have happened since most children here do not write diary. Ma Yan has been writing diary since grade 4. She is also persistent and strong-willed to chase after her simple dream of going to school."

Can you imagine how many destinies have been changed by Ma Yan's diary-- at least 16 in her own village alone, not to mention the inspiration that she give to other girls in China for years to come.

A few months ago I saw a report on CNN TV news that a New York cab driver, who is an immigrant from India, donates all his income and tips to run a girl school in India. He does that because, like other countries, girls are more likely left without schooling, become illiterate mothers and perpetuate the same fate to their daughters.

We hear people ask for Feng Shui tips for better wealth and health lucks all the time. One of the better tips is to do good deed and charity work. When you do something good, you feel good. This good-feeling will strengthen your personal "qi field" to fend off bad qi and attract good qi.
