Who will help you soar or self-actualize? 什么人旺你

Note:  This is the 701st article of this blog.

"Wang 旺" is a verb in Bazi that is difficult to translate into English.  It literally means "make prosperous" but has deeper meanings than simply material gains.  Abraham Maslow's "self-actualization" probably is a closer appropriation of "wang".

"Wang" in Bazi context means people who will help you to be successful and realizing your potential.  The people who "wang" you are also known as "noblemen 贵人" or helpful mentors.

How do you identify the people who "wang" you?   You may locate them from:

1.  the palace or pillar location of your natal chart:  The followings are representations of each pillar location:

• Year pillar:  Parents/ older generations, superiors, teachers
• Month pillar:  Siblings, peer group, coworkers
• Day pillar:  Day-master (stem, self), spouse (branch)
• Hour pillar:  Children, junior, younger generation, students, subordinates, employees

For example, if your teacher has given you critical assistance to achieve your life goals, then the representations in year pillar are the people who will help you soar.

2.  the 10 transformation stars ("10 gods") represented by the helpful persons:  

• Peer stars (bi-jian/ jie-cai):  siblings, peers, friends, coworkers, business partners
• Resource stars (zheng-yin/ pian-yin):  older generations/ relatives, grandparents, mother, teacher
• Wealth stars (zheng-cai/ pian-cai):  Zheng-cai is wife for male; pian-cai is mistress for male and father for both sexes; wealth stars also represent customers or clients.
• Power stars (zheng-guan/ qi-sha):  Zheng-guan is:  superior, boss, authority figure, husband for female, daughter for male; qi-sha is:  son for male, second husband or lover for female
• Output stars (shang-guan/ shi-shen):  Shang-guan is:  junior generation, student, employee, subordinates, grand-daughter/ grandmother for male; son for female; shi-shen is:  junior generation, subordinate, student, daughter for female.

For example, if your uncle is very helpful to you, this means people represented by "resource stars" are likely helping you to be successful.

Other methods to find out who are helpful to you include:

1. The six-combinations of your Chinese zodiac animal sign:  for example, if your animal sign is horse, people with ram sign are more likely to be your friends and helpful people.
2. The 3-unities-combinations of your Chinese zodiac animal sign:  for example, if your animal sign is monkey, people with rat or dragon sign are more likely to be your friends and helpful people.
3. People and transformation star ("10-gods") represented by your favorable element ("useful god"):  for example, if you are a metal daymaster,  earth is your favorable element and earth is your resource star, then older relatives or people with strong earth are your helpful people.

Minimalist Feng Shui for 2018

This is a "green" article recycled from last year with updates.  If you are darn lazy, simply read the following picture and go back to your sweet dream.

No digging/ movements in regions with blue arrows:

• Region between 142.5- 217.5 degrees  (San Sha and 5-yellow locations)
• 247.5- 292.5 degrees (2-black star)-- use metal cure
• 292.5- 307.5 degrees (Grand Duke)
• 112.5- 127.5 degrees (Sui-Po or year-breaker)

"Minimalist Feng Shui"  here fixes only 2-5, 5-5, and 9-5 star combinations in regions with activities.  You don't need to put up remedies or Feng Shui monsters in all 9-palaces of your house, especially in region with no activity like storage room or guest room.

This year Sui-po (year-breaker) is in the 8-wealth star region.  Be very careful with the location where you put your water-fountain or other wealth-enhancement monsters.

You should do a good date-selection if you need to do construction in any of the above locations with blue arrow (mountains/ palace).  San-sha and 5-Yellow star share the same location this year.  Make sure you do not provoke their "anger" by digging and movements there.

People with dragon and dog zodiac signs should avoid seeing corpse being put into a coffin or burial for this year if they don't want bad luck and sickness.

Yang nobleman sign for this year is Chou (ox).  Yin nobleman is Wei (ram).

2018 Wu-xu Feng Shui year will start on February 4 @ 5:30 am.  Remember to move your Feng Shui monsters/ remedies before that time.  Do a house-cleaning/ cleansing on Feb. 3 if you have suffered misfortunes during 2017 ding-you year.

Bazi: Who will benefit you most?

With Bazi knowledge, you may be able to figure out who will help you or benefit you most if you know their animal signs or birthday.  The term "nobleman" is used in Bazi to represent one's helpful person, mentor and supporter.

1.  People with Chinese zodiac animal sign that combines with your animal sign
-- you are likely to get along with them easily and help each other out.   For example, if your animal sign is rat, people with ox, monkey, or dragon are likely your helpful people.  Below are animal pairs that combine with each other.

• rat and ox      
• tiger and pig
• rabbit and dog
• dragon and rooster
• snake and monkey
• horse and ram
• rat and dragon
• monkey and rat
• snake and rooster
• rooster and ox
• tiger and horse
• horse and dog
• rabbit and pig
• rabbit and ram
• tiger and horse
• horse and dog

2.  People with birth season that nurtures or enhances the favorable elements of your birth chart.   For example, if your favorable element is wood, people who were born in water or winter season or in wood or spring season, will be your "noblemen". 

3.  People who come from the direction represented by your favorable element are likely to be your "noblemen".   For example, if wood is your favorable element, people coming from east and southeast of your city (or birth place, country) are likely your "noblemen" (Note:  you need Bazi knowledge or find a Bazi reader to figure out your favorable element). 

4.  The transformation star ("10-gods") represented by the favorable element ("yong-shen" or "useful god") of your chart is your "nobleman" or helpful person.    For example, if you are a metal daymaster (DM) and wood is your favorable element-- wood stands for "wealth" for you.  Wealth also represents wife, lover and father.  So these people are likely helpful to you.  Below is the people represented by corresponding transformation stars:

5.  This is more for Chinese or Japanese people-- people's name with the element of your favorable element are likely your noblemen.  For example, water is your favorable element.  Someone with water prefix or element in their name will be your "nobleman".

Bazi: 3-Penalties and Self-penalties

To thank your support here, I write a little more on 3-penalties (3P) and add something new here-- self-penalties.

THREE PENALTIES
3-penalties are derived from the interactions between 3-unities (San-he) and 3-meetings (San-hui).   See the table below:

STATIC vs. ACTIVE 3-PENALTIES
A "static 3P" is formed when a natal chart has all the 3 components of a 3P.  "Static" means little or no negative effect showing up yet.

A natal chart has only one or two components of a 3P and when luck periods bring in the remaining 3P component/s, the chart will have a "active 3P".  "Active" means the effect of 3P in action.

A static 3P becomes an "active 3P" when luck period/s bring in any one of the 3P components.  Effects of 3P (negative or positive depending on the chart) may occur to the person/ event represented by the palace/ star being clashed by the 3P luck element. 

Yin-si-shen: Penalty of Ingratitude 无恩之刑

People with yin-si-shen 3-penalties in their natal charts are likely rebellious, defiant and resistant to authority and discipline. The effects of this 3P are traffic accidents, surgeries, injuries, losing wealth, imprisonment and sickness. 

Xu-chou-wei: Penalty of Upper-hand Bullying 恃势之刑

This 3P is not as serious as yin-si-shen because it is all earth elements coming together.  Males with this penalty are mostly involved in imprisonment.  For females, xu-chou-wei 3P within natal chart means a tortuous life.  They are likely neurotic, superstitious, not too smart (due to too much earth), jinxing close relatives and prone to surgery and miscarriage. 

Zi-mao: Penalty of impertinence 无礼之刑

Zi is water and mao is wood.  Zi and mao are both "peach blossom" elements.  This 3P may involve disaster or losing wealth due to lust or improper relationship.  It may also be an over-protective parent spoiling her child ("too much water rotting/ floating wood") or a child demands too much from his parent ("too much wood dries up water").  Translating to reality, this means one's well-intended assistance may not be accepted by other party OR the other party takes one's help for granted and asks for more.  I also find people with this penalty in their chart are likely be blamed for whatever nice things they do for others instead of getting appreciation.

Negative effects of 3P can be mitigated if there are "Nobleman" (symbolic stars) like Tian-yi Nobleman within their charts.  My "Destiny and Luck Management with Bazi" courses also have methods to neutralize or reduce the effect of 3P.

 Self-penalties  (自刑) “zi xing”

This is based on the principle of same polarity repels. The following are self-penalties:

--Wu and wu

--Chen and chen

--You and you

          -- Hai and hai

People with self-penalty are stubborn, cannot let go and like to dwell on trivialities.  They are likely "shooting themselves on the foot" type and have depression tendency.

"The Prettiest Mother" (updated 10/15/2011) 最美妈妈

"Passer-by saves China toddler in 10-storey fall" is the heading from today's AFP news.

On July 2,  Wu Ju-ping, a 31 years old mother of a 7-month-old baby, risked her life to catch a neighbor's 2-year-old toddler falling from a 10-storey high apartment.  She had caught the toddler with her right arm and fainted.   The falling toddler had a force of over 375KG (about 750 lbs).  The normal capacity of a human arm is 45KG.  Her right arm was fractured into multiple pieces.

The toddler girl had suffered no external injury.  But she has some internal injuries due to the immense shock when hitting the arm of Wu.  She is still under observation in an intensive care unit.

"This is my instinct-- any  mother would have done the same thing." ("这是本能，是一个母亲应该做的事情。") Wu told a news reporter.

"I will regret for the rest of my life if I had not stretched out my arms." Remarked Wu.

According to her physician,  Wu would have been killed or paralyzed  if the toddler fall on her head.   She has a 95% chance of recovery and it will take 6 months.  Her medical bill is around RMB 50,000 (about US$7700).  The hospital will waive her bills.

Wu is a customer service rep in Alibaba, China's version of Amazon.  Billionaire company chairman Ma Yun calls Wu "heroine" and "is honored to work alongside with a heroine."

Netizens in China give Wu the title "The Prettiest Mother" (最美妈妈) and "Heroine Mother" because they think only maternal instinct could have pumped up her adrenaline to handle over 375KG fallling force.   They said that Wu is also the embodiment of the Confucian Utopian ideal of "Caring other elders as if they are your own elders; nurturing other children as if they are your own children"  (老吾老以及人之老，幼吾幼以及人之幼).

In terms of Chinese metaphysics, Wu is the "Nobleman" or "helpful person" of this lucky toddler.  In western world, she is the toddler's "guardian angel". 

Saving a life with the possibility of losing one's own life is the ultimate karma credit that one can get.

UPDATES ON JULY 15, 2011

• Wu's arm is healing without surgery with Chinese medicine
• The toddler, Niu-niu was in coma for 10 days and woke up in July 11.  She is able to drink and move one hand.  The landing side of her body when falling may become paralyzed.
• Accolades and award money are given to Wu.  She only accepts the RMB$ 200,000 from her employer Alibaba and donates the rest to charity.
• Commercial and political interests try to get credit from her heroic deeds.
• Her employer Alibaba, had a major scandal of cheating overseas buyers a few months ago, suddenly claims that Wu's deed is a result of company's emphasizes on morality and ethics.
• Wu happens to be a Communist Party member, so the local political boss gives her a "3-8 red-flag master" title and run "Learn from  Wu Ju-ping" campaign.
• Chinese mass media is hungry for every minute details of Wu's past history-- from her way of placing stationery in her desk to her early school life.  To their dismay, they do not find any heroic or extraordinary events that Wu had done in the past.  Wu is an "average" woman from a peasant family.
• A motion to make the "Hands of the angel" statue of Wu's hands  to commemorate her heroic deed is gaining momentum

In the last few months, just in the city of Minneapolis here alone, there were a few incidents that toddlers had climbed out of window in tall buildings and failed to their death.  I thought of Ms. Wu when reading these tragic news. Niu-niu is extremely lucky running into his guardian angel Wu and has a second chance in life.

Beating up the mean people around you

One may feel depressed because it seems the whole world is against him.  One works his behind off and the boss shows no appreciation.  Co-workers and friends back-stab or drive him nuts.  He seems to run into obstacles wherever he moves.  Nothing seems to go his way. He is neither a violent nor sports type person, so he cannot grab a gun to shot or do boxing.  There is no channel to vent his frustration and anger. 

Upon the recommendation of a good pal, this depressed person consults a psychologist.  The psychologist is happy to offer him a battery of psychological tests and customize a "therapy plan" of 6- 10+ counseling sessions.

During the sessions, the depressed dude will spill out his pet peeves.  The psychologist will sugar-coat the client's craps and throw it back to him.  He may realize that it is either his own stupidity that he is depressed OR it is nobody's fault to be depressed OR simple get a life and think positive.

Somehow our depressed dude feels relieved and happy again, largely due to the opportunity to find someone listening to his pet peeves.  But he becomes depressed again when he is billed a few thousand dollars by the psychologist.

In Southern China, there is a service that can offer similar or better results for the price of a MacDonald Value Meal.

The Chinese call people who back-stab or obstruct you or whoever make your life miserable as "mean people" or "little people" (xiao-ren 小人).  There are "beating up mean people ritual" (打小人)services for people who feel that they are being rejected, slighted, bullied and etc,. by other people.  These services are mostly provided by older women or grannies.

In Hong Kong, beneath a flyover near the Times Square, there are some grannies practicing "Beating Mean People" ritual for HK$40 (US$ 5) per beating.  You do not even need to raise your finger.  The grannie will do all the "beating".  This service include:

A.  ALL THE PAPERWORK (joss papers)
-- a big yellow talisman that includes clemency orders for your bad deeds or sins.
-- a red nobleman talisman to attract helpful people to you.
-- joss paper money to please the deities and spirits
-- a paper tiger (symbolizes "mean people")
-- a paper imprinted with a human shape (represents the mean people who bully you, for beating)
-- a plea to heaven about beating the mean people
-- incense and candle sticks


B.  SERVICES

-- you can specify the name of a person to be beaten or just a "blanket beating" of all the mean people around you (no extra charge!).

-- your "mean people" are represented by a piece of rectangular paper with a human shape imprinted.  It will be put on the surface of a brick.  The grannie will use a woman high heel shoe to strike the paper human from head to toes while chanting something like these:

" Hit the head of  you mean people, so you can't breathe.
  Hit the hands of you mean people, so  you can't hold your pen.
  Hit the feet of you mean people, so you can't wear shoes...."

You may add your special punishment to your mean people.  But this ritual rarely curses or beats  people to death.

-- after a thorough beating, the paper mean person will be "engulfed" (wrapped inside) by a paper tiger and burnt.

-- a quick divination will be done with the portable altar nearby by throwing two piece of wood (3 possible combinations) to see if the deity "approves" of the beating.  If the answer is "no", grannie will throw a pinch of rice and burn some papers and redo the divination until getting deity's approval.  Most of the time, two tries are enough.  Now you will feel great because even the deity or heaven has approved of your beating.

-- all the remaining "paperwork" (joss paper) is lighted and sway around your body to "cleanse" or remove  negative energies away.  At the same time, grannie will chant, "Auspiciousness and prosperity for you!"  You feel lighter, relieved and happy.

-- throw the burning paper into a red tin can to finish burning (ritual is done)

This is probably the best deal in mental health service.  For US$ 5, you get your sins forgiven, your mean people beaten with heaven's approval, spiritual cleansing and blessed with good luck and fortune.  No wonder Hong Kong's Tourist Association was so surprised to sell 2000 "Beating Mean People Tour" packages in Taiwan within a day or two in last May.

Two years ago, I took an Amercian Feng Shui pal to the grannie and beaten up his "mean people".  He told me later that he had no business for two months.  He was dumbfounded that most of his clients are the "mean people".  Mean people are sometimes the people who sign your paycheck, so be careful when you try to "beat" them.

In my "Daoist Talismans for Feng Shui and Blessing" course, I have a more "humane" ritual that does the same thing without beating up people.  It focuses on bringing in helpful mentors into one's life instead.  The ritual works so well that it is reported on the TV in South America.
