1.  You need one if you have the following Chinese zodiac birth animal signs:

a.  HORSE (years born: 1942, 1954, 1966, 1978, 1990, 2002, 2014)

-- "Fu-yin" or same animal sign as Grand Duke; obstacles, stagnation or running "reverse" instead of forward and not suitable for travels 

-- Penalizes Grand Duke; big fluctuations in luck, wealth, career, relationship and health; traffic accident, sickness, surgery, losing competitions/wealth, moving, death,  negative romance, quarrels and etc.

b.  RAT (years born: 1948, 1960, 1972, 1984, 1996, 2008, 2020) 

-- Clashing Grand Duke; very serious; big fluctuations in luck, accident, sickness, surgery, losing competitions/wealth, moving, death, changing job

c.  OX (years born: 1937, 1949, 1961, 1973,  1985, 1997, 2009, 2021)

2.  If ANY pillar of your Bazi natal chart has a "Zi" or rat:  Click the following link and enter your birthday and birth hour in the "birth chart" windows, to generate you Bazi natal chart.  Then check if there is any Zi or rat in the chart.  You only need to check the left side Birth Chart.  For example, this Dec. 29, 1948, 1:40 chart:

From right to left:  Year, Month, Day, Hour

-- This person is in big trouble this year with 3 zi or rat branches because Grand Duke clashes 3 of  the 4 pillars and penalize the Chou hour pillar.  This could be major misfortunes or even death.

MEANING OF GRAND  DUKE CLASHING EACH PILLAR:

1. Year pillar:  you or your senior relative may have obstacles or misfortune
2. Month pillar:  your parents or siblings may have misfortune
3. Day pillar:  you or your spouse may have misfortune, divorce or even death
4. Hour pillar:  your children or younger relative may be in trouble

You are strongly recommended to get a GD talisman if you have a rat in any pillar in your natal chart, especially the day pillar (Jia-zi, Bing-zi, Wu-zi, Geng-zi and Ren-zi).  A MUST if you have Ren-zi or Geng-zi day pillar because both you and your spouse are in danger.

In addition, 2026 Bing-wu year is the strongest fire year.  Even charts that like fire may have problem with it.  Strong fire can destroy anything including water.  It is associated with serious illness like tumor and cancer.  Do medical check up if your chart already has too much fire and/ or chou, wei and xu earth.

Talisman for protection from the coronavirus and other illnesses

The info below is about a powerful talisman for protection from illnesses and plagues like the coronavirus. 

GREAT PENG (Garuda) GOLDEN WINGED DEITY MANTRA WHEEL TALISMAN

 In China, Garuda is called "Great Peng Deity" or "Great Eagle Deity".  This belief is borrowed from Tibetan Buddhism.  Tibetan Buddhism in turn borrows the idea from Hinduism.  Garuda is a mythical being that has some resemblance to a eagle.  Many countries use Garuda as their national symbols (e.g., Thailand, Indonesia,….).  In Hinduism and Buddhism, Garuda deity protects people from sickness, plagues, poison and unknown illnesses.

The digital talisman image that Ken Lai sent is individually consecrated and blessed in your family name.  Anyone related to your family can use this talisman as long as a donation is made to honor Garuda.

This is a powerful mantra for healing and protection from infectious diseases, snake bite, physical pain, ulcers, leprosy, cancer, anemia, blood related illnesses, illness due to non-humans (ghosts), mental illness and illnesses that are not curable with existing medicine.

To increase the effect of protection, recite the mantra below at least once in the morning (the more the better).  While reciting, visualize this Garuda deity with golden wings descending from heaven from bright light to protect and remove any illness from you.

"om garuda hun sarhe tsale tsale soha"

Note:  Do NOT recite this mantra when you are near water like sea, river, lake, stream and ponds.  It may hurt the beings inside water.  (注意：江、河、湖、海、泉眼等有水之处勿诵咒语。)

2013 Grand Duke Talisman Charity Drive

This post is based on last year's "Grand Duke Talisman charity drive" with updates for 2013.

The "extra strength" 2012 GD talisman seems to have saved you from the 2012 end of the world event.

If you have read my old message about functions of Grand Duke, you know that there are two Grand Dukes watching over your shoulder, counting the good and bad deeds that you have done and executing rewards and misfortunes accordingly. This is a major rationale that donation to get your Grand Duke talisman.  When your talisman is grounded with a charitable deed, GD is less likely to execute any misfortunes due from your karma account. 

2013 GRAND DUKE GENERAL XU DAN
2013 is Gui-Si or year of water-snake. Grand Duke for the year is General Xu Dan who was a military officer in Han Dynasty (25- 220 AD). Xu was known for his bravery and generosity.  He had conquered the barbarian tribes and small kingdoms that had plagued the west side of China with an army of volunteers. Over 50 tribes and kingdoms were annexed into the Han Kingdom with Xu's help.

2013  GRAND DUKE TALISMAN 
Si or year of Snake can be very dangerous for people with Shen (monkey) and Yin (tiger) signs because these signs can form "Yin-Si-Shen 3-penalties".   People with this penalty usually jinx their close relative to major sickness/ injury or even death.  However,  some people may experience meteoric rise to fame overnight if the 3-penalties elements are favorable in their Bazi charts.  People with Hai or pig sign in their Bazi chart may suffer injuries caused by fire or water.

Here are the four groups of people who need Grand Duke Talismans:

1. "Fu-yin" or same animal sign of Grand Duke 值太岁-- people with SNAKE sign 

BIRTH YEARS: 1929, 1941, 1953, 1965, 1977, 1989, 2001

BIRTH YEARS: 1914, 1926, 1938, 1950, 1962, 1974, 1986, 1998, 2010

SYMPTOMS: backstabbing at work, and success slips away in the last minute

4. "Po" or "breaking" the animal sign of Grand Duke 破太岁-- people with MONKEY sign (also penalizing GD)

BIRTH YEARS: 1920, 1932, 1944, 1956, 1968, 1980, 1992, 2004

SYMPTOMS: legal problems, accidents, injuries by knife, low luck and personal safety problems

GD TALISMAN FOR FENG SHUI REMEDY

If your house faces Si mountain or SSE direction, you need to put up a Grand Duke talisman facing that direction and avoid construction, earth-digging and demolition there.

If your desk or wherever you sit for an extended time faces Si or SSE direction, you can put up a Grand Duke talisman there for protection.  It is not auspicious to face the Grand Duke direction.  It weakens your competition power in business/career and examinations.

Grand Duke Remedy for Year 2011

The Year of  Rabbit will start on Spring Solstice (Li-chun) or Feb. 4.  According to Chinese custom, a new ruler of the year, or Grand Duke (Tai-sui) will come for each year. For 2011 or Xin-mao (metal-rabbit) year, the Grand Duke is General Fan Ning.

For 2011, Grand Duke sits on Mao mountain or the East (E2). If your house faces E2, it is considered "clashing Grand Duke". The residents may face accidents, obstacles or losing wealth. The cure is minimizing movements in the facing and put a Grand Duke talisman (see samples here) facing E2.

On the other hand, if your house sits on Mao mountain, it is considered having the support of Grand Duke. The tenants will do better in business ventures and competition. Historically speaking, countries at war with Grand Duke at their back are likely to win. But if your house or office does not sit on Mao mountain, you may use a Grand Duke Talisman at your back side as support (not recommended for people clashing GD for the current year).

In terms of individuals, people who have something to do with current year's Grand Duke are generally considered "violating Grand Duke". This "violation" can be distinguished in 3 ways:

1. People who have the same animal sign as the Grand Duke are considered "on duty" or "zhi 植" with Grand Duke. For 2011 , people who were born in rabbit years (1939, 1951, 1963, 1975, 1987, 1999) are "on duty" with Grand Duke. The symptoms will be minor sickness, emotionally imbalanced and minor misfortunes.

2. People whose animal sign clashes the Grand Duke are "chong" or clash Grand Duke. For 2010, people with rooster animal sign (born 1933, 1945, 1957, 1969, 1981, 1993) are clashing Grand Duke for the year. This is the most serious Grand Duke violation that may cause:
-- career changes (promotion or demotion)
-- moving
-- frequent travels
-- major monetary losses or bankruptcy
-- death in the family
-- major sickness/ surgery
-- accident or death

3. People who have animal sign that "penalizes" Grand Duke. For 2011, people who have rat (zi) animal sign (born 1924, 1936, 1948, 1960, 1972, 1984, 1996) penalize Grand Duke. Normally, penalizing is less severe than clashing Grand Duke. However, zi-mao penalty is one of the infamous "Three Penalties"in Bazi or 4-Pillars of Destiny.  This becomes more a Bazi problem than Grand Duke violation.  Zi-mao penalty normally jinxes the close relatives of the person involved.

One way to cure Grand Duke violation is to carry the Grand Duke talisman shown here. However, a mere reproduction of this talisman does not have the divine energy to fix the problem. A talisman needs to be "activated" or "benedicted" by a Daoist teacher or priest to be effective. A benediction alone easily costs US$60. In last February I had written about the "8 monthly auspicious days" for doing charity to maximize your "karma credit" in every month.

Well, I know at least one person follows the advice. She writes:
