Do you want a free reading?

In traditional China, if a fortune-teller did not charge a customer, the customer likely would cry.  It was not tears of joy.  It was tears of fear.

Practitioners in the Chinese fortune-telling circle think they are in the business of "leaking heaven's secrets".   They have set up some business norms or code of ethics on how to charge, who should not be charged and who should be denied service.

RULES FOR FEE CHARGING 算命收费行规

1. Charge the rich and famous more 富贵者多收
-- because people in these social levels have more influence on society.  "Leaking heaven's secrets" to them will create more unintended influence on the society.
2. Charge the poor less 贫穷者少收
-- the influence of this group of people is less than the rich.  "Leaking heaven's secrets" to them will create much less influence on society.
3. Reading cannot be free  算命不能不收钱
-- according to fortune-telling business norms, free reading is like giving away one's life to the customer. The fortune-teller may pick up customer's karma debt for "leaking heaven's secret" without compensation. This becomes interfering with others' destiny for no reason.  It is also inauspicious to the customer who will owe a karma debt to the reader.  This karma entanglement may cause unnecessary reincarnations to repay debts.

RULES FOR FREE READING  此类命不收

1. People whose life is about to end 阳寿将尽者不收
-- because fortune-telling norm does not collect money from dead people (or soon-to-be-dead).
2. People who are facing unavoidable major disaster 大祸临身不可避者不收
-- major disaster refers to major injury that may cause death or whole family may perish.
3. People who will not have good luck for remaining of their lives 再无好运者不收
-- their lives will get worse and worse.  So no charge.

RULES FOR REFUSING READING  “四不算”

1. No forecasting of other people's private matter/ privacy 不测他人的隐私
-- this is to avoid exploitation and prosecution of people unknown to the reader
2. No forecasting of baby gender for pregnant women 不测孕妇怀胎性别
-- with modern ultra-sound technology, this taboo is no longer relevant.  The original intention is to prevent abortion of female fetus.
3. No forecasting for gangsters  不测凶徒
-- the fortune-teller may get beaten up or killed if not careful when servicing these people.  Other than doing persuasion indirectly, it is not smart to "leak heaven's secret" to these people.
4. No service for insincere people 心不誠者不測
心不誠者不測
心不誠者不測
-- some people treat fortune-telling as a joke or for entertainment only.  Stay away from these people and not waste your time.

Similar belief about fee payment also extends to Feng Shui, date-selection and other divination methods.  The practitioners believe in the exchange of energies-- advice for compensation.  Without the exchange means:
1.  A karma debt is created which is negative to both parties.
2.  The practitioner is interfering with other being's business.

The amount of payment is not important but the flow and exchange of energies is.  Symbolic payment inside a red envelop is common if a practitioner does not want to charge a poor customer or close friend.

Some practitioners also believe that non-paying consultation will enrage customer's karma creditors (ghosts/ spirits) for interfering with their karma debt collection (by inflicting pain and misfortune, but are stopped by the reader).  These karma creditors will collect their debts from the practitioner instead of the customer.  The practitioner will pick up customer's the bad luck and misfortune.

Yin-yang Teachers' "5 detriments and 3-shortages"

The main theory for Chinese metaphysics is yin-yang theory.  Hence, ordinary people called practitioners of Feng Shui, Bazi, fortune-telling, divination, QMDJ, ZWDS and the like "yin-yang teachers".

According to ancient observations of life histories of yin-yang teachers, they had found this people do not enjoy the "complete" life of ordinary people.   It is attributed to these metaphysics people have "leaked" too many "heaven's secrets天机".  Heaven in turn punishes them in some aspects of their life.

Below are common ways that yin-yang teachers suffer in life:

5-DETRIMENTS
  1. Widower --  man with no wife or wife passed prematurely; or simply live alone
  2. Widow --  woman's husband had passed and never remarried
  3. Orphan 孤 --  a person's father died early or both parents passed
  4. Childless -- childless or no children during old age
  5. Handicap   -- certain disability in the body

3-SHORTAGES
  1. Money 钱 -- person lives in poverty
  2. Life expectancy 命-- person does not live long
  3. Power 权 -- person does not have power.
Some metaphysics works are more "dangerous" than others.  Techniques like Fa-QMDJ (Magical QMDJ) and talismans that involves deities and ghosts are risky.  It is a taboo to use deities to make money.

Fa/ magic-related Daoist studies usually are very strict and selective on enrollment.  They will not take you simply because you give them $20k.  The teachers worries about the karma retribution of teaching the "fa" to the wrong person.  They care more about the integrity and character of the candidate.

It is not unusual for some schools to require the potential student to take a "poison vow" to make sure s/he will not use the "fa" for money-grabs or betraying their teachers.  The vow usually consists of 3 choice of consequence:
  1. Handicap
  2. Poverty
  3. Widower / Widow

Modern response to these detriments are doing charity work and donate a certain percentage of metaphysics income to charity.

Field imageries: Qi-Men-Dun-Jia vs. Plum Flower Divination

In Qi-Men-Dun-Jia, there are many “indicators” or imageries seen in the field for almost every aspect of 9-stars, 9-stems, 8-gods and the like. These indicators are material objects, animals, scenes, colors, different walks of life and etc. Many teachers do not place too much attention for these indicators, largely because many of these indicators or imageries are no longer found in modern life and environment.

These indicators are supposedly showing that your QMDJ application is working or in the process of working. Here I choose the two of the Ba-Men (gates) for you to get a feel of it. I have tried my best to "modernize” these indicators to fit current situations. For examples:

XIU-MEN (Living Gate, very auspicious)
When you go through xiu-men, you will see a noble person (high status) at 30 li (about 21 miles) OR see snake, rat or water creatures at 50 li (about 35 miles)

SI-MEN (Death Gate, very inauspicious)
When you go through si-men, you will see a funeral or dead people OR see crying, mourning, patient or prisoner at 20 li (about 14 miles)

For QMDJ, these indicators are "signs" for the particular QMDJ application-- i.e. the user will look for these signs if the anticipated results are coming.

On the other hand, Plum Flower Divination (PF) also uses field imageries extensively. Unlike QMDJ, the imageries or signs are not prescribed. The implied meaning of an imagery can override the hexagram predictions generated by Plum Flower Divination. For example, if your client asks about the sickness of his father and you see or hear a funeral hearse passing by (even if you see the hearse on TV at that instant), a PF prediction, regardless of the hexagram generated, will be death for the patient.

For PF, field imageries that are positive will be positive for the prediction most of the time, the opposite is true for negative imageries. "Omen" can dictate the results of PF. So make sure you do not take a negative thinker along to your PF divination session!

For QMDJ, there is almost no value-judgment on the imageries other than as indicators that the QMDJ process is working or not.

Depending on your school and teacher-- some insist on the signs must show up or your QMDJ applications will not work. Others do not attach much importance to it.

While QMDJ can also do divination, but it is not easy to master because there are too many formula and techniques to remember. Most people can pick up PF pretty quick and do good divinations in much shorter time and cost less money.

I have shown QMDJ can also do birth chart reading like 4P in my "Imperial QMDJ" seminar and video. But I think 4P does a better job in that aspect.

QMDJ is better and more flexible in date-selection-- "everyday is a good day as long as you choose the right direction." QMDJ date-selection is much easier to learn than traditional date-selection methods. People with knowledge of stem and branches can learn it within an hour with my "Practical Imperial QMDJ" video correspondence course.

QMDJ DIVINATION

Note: The following blog was written on Sept. 21, 2005

Some people here show intense interest in QMDJ divination. Hence I post the following excerpt about
QMDJ divination from p.150 of my "Imperial QMDJ" course manual. The manual is over 400 pages. But my
focus is on "making things happen" and not on divination or waiting for things to happen.

Generally speaking, if you have problem handling imageries and associations with 4-Pillars, you can
pretty much forget about doing QMDJ divination.

===============================================
QMDJ DIVINATION
Besides choosing auspicious direction, QMDJ can also be applied to divination. The method itself is very
simple, but interpretation of result takes experience and good associative power or imagination.

Predictions and deductions are based any OR combinations of the followings:

* 9-stems characteristics and representations
* 8-gates’ 5-elements and characteristics
* 9-stars’ 5-elements, characteristics, shapes and representations
* 8-gods characteristics and imagery
* 9-palaces or bagua representations and characteristics

Besides the above, QMDJ also use specific plate or dimension to make prediction, for example, to predict
marital relationship, QMDJ uses yi-wood of heaven plate to represent woman and geng-metal to represent
man. Then check to see the controlling-nurturing relationship between the two to determine marital
blessing. For sickness, QMDJ uses Tian-rui star to represent sickness and checks which palace the star
lands on. Then each palace represents certain organs of the body and hence figuring out where the sickness
is. There are numerous unique principles like the ones used in these two examples. So it gets very
complicated to use QMDJ as a divination tool, especially when interactions between plates or
dimensions are also considered. There are simple and easier divination tools out there that we can use with
ease and cost less to learn.

The followings are some common divination topics and methods used in QMDJ:
*Business and economic forecasting
*Speculation
*Marriage and fertility
*Missing person and lost articles
*Sickness
*Exams
*Visitation
*Legal problems
*Election
