3-Penalties dates

Xu month  starts and runs till Nov. 16.  Chou year (2009) and xu month already form "semi-3-penalties".  When it runs into a wei day, the day becomes a "year-breaker" day plus "3-penalties" day-- not suitable to make major decision or traveling (susceptible to traffic accident).

The following days are ram days, clashing ox and forming a  "3-penalties day" with xu month--  10/29 (ding-wei day) and 11/10 (ji-wei day).   You better stay home and avoid traveling or doing anything important or making major decision.

The chou-xu-wei combination is especially inauspicious for people with ram, ox and dog animal sign.  Even if you do not have these animal signs, but your spouse palace (day branch) has a wei (ram), chou (ox) or xu (dog), you should be extra careful during this month too.  It is not too late to get the Immortal Lu safe-driving metal talisman or at least you put a protection symbol of your favorite deity or religion into your car.

Metal talismans for home protection, safe-driving & Grand Duke

I have only offered these metal talismans to my "Daoist Talismans" class students in the last 4 years. I got reports about that cars were totaled during accidents but the drivers did not suffer any injury with these metal talismans. There are also reports about protection from fire from the home protection talisman. So they are tested to be working pretty well.

I bought these metal talismans from a Daoist temple in Hong Kong. These talismans were put on the altar of the "Celestial Mother of the Stars" (Dou Mu) in a Grand Duke Hall. Dou Mu is the "boss" of the 60 Grand Dukes (Tai Sui). You may see some incense smoke on these talismans if I do not clean them before sending it out. So these talismans have absorbed the prayers and blessings of people and Daoist priests who had prayed to Dou Mou.

What is the big deal with Dou Mu? Most accidents, injuries, sickness and misfortunes are attributed to one's annual luck pillar (as in 4-Pillars) or current year's Grand Duke. So if you have something that has the blessing of Grand Duke's boss or mother, you may be able to get away from the misfortunes (Pal, it is all about relationship! ).

Why metal and not paper talisman? Most paper talismans last only one year. Metal talismans will last forever-- your great-great- great grandson can use it even after a few hundred years. All you need to do is "recharging" it once per year with my simple instructions.

These talismans come in 3 versions:
1. Safe-driving talisman (Hexagon shape, 5 cm diameter)
-- a must if you have teenager driver
-- if your city has too many crazy drivers
-- if your animal sign clashes the current Grand Duke

2. Home-protection talisman  (Hexagon shape, 5 cm diameter)
-- protects your home from fire, burglary
-- compensate for bad Feng Shui

The front side has a portrait of Immortal Lu (one of the 8 Immortals in Daoism). Back side has a powerful talisman. I've enclosed a picture of these talismans.

Although these hexagon-shaped talismans are inscribed with specific purpose, you can still take it out and carry with you when you:
-- do Feng Shui audits, for spiritual protection
-- go to hospitals
-- go to funeral home or cemetery
-- haunted places

3. Pendant version talisman (Oval shape, 3.4 cm. diameter w/ red neck string)
-- the hexagon talisman may be too bulky, this one is easily to carry around
-- general protection purposes

Real Life Drama

Imagine your are jobless in a foreign country, living on recycling garbage while your children waiting for your remittance to pay for school and living expenses-- found an envelope with the equivalent of US$43,000 in a garbage can--- the equivalent of working as a house maid for 20 years in that foreign country to make that amount of money-- What will you do? Will you grab this "ticket" to financial freedom and run?

This scenario happened to Mildred Perez, an unemployed Filipina house maid who gets "stuck" in Hong Kong.

She barely survives on her daily US$5 income by picking soda cans, paper and used clothings from garbage surfing.

Faced with this "bounty" which is a considered a huge sum in her home country, what was in her mind?

"Of course, I couldn’t sleep. It’s money. That would have allowed me to go home. But I was thinking, who left the money? What if he is just another worker? He would lose his job. How many people depend on him? I couldn’t keep it. My conscience would have bothered me no end if I did otherwise,” Perez said.

She seems to forget her own problems and thinks more about the welfare of the person who had lost the envelope.

Perez eventually located the owner and returned all the money to her. The owner gave her a can of buttered cookies as a token of appreciation. The envelope was lost by her employee who was supposely to deposit it into a bank.

Prezez resumes her life as a garbage surfer.

This story reminds me of a legend about Immortal Lu Dong-bin. Immortal is the equivalent of "buddha" or "enlightened being" in Daoism (Taoism). Lu was one of the "8 Immortals" in Daoism.

Before Lu become an Immortal, he had studied with his master about the alchemy of turning copper to gold.

One day, Lu had asked his master, "Will this converted gold turn back into copper one day?"

His master said, "Yes, after 500 years, it will turn back to copper."

"Then I don't want to learn this alchemy. I do not want to create problem for the person who will own this gold 500 years later."

The legend goes like this-- Lu became an Immortal (enlightened) after this episode because of his concern for people that were not even born yet.

Returning to the story of the honest unemployed house maid-- Mildred Perez's story has become an inspiration and pride in her hometown. People are raising money for her to return home.
