Bazi: Is 2021 Year of Metal-ox good or bad for you?

2021 Xin-chou (metal-ox) year will arrive next Feb. 3 at 23:01 pm.  According to the ancient "Mother Earth Classic", metal-ox year will be a much better year than 2020 metal-rat year.  Metal-ox year will have great harvests and no major natural disasters. But there will be some minor plagues.  

Chou-ox clashing wei-ram is wet earth clashing hot earth creating bigger or stronger earth.  In terms of likely illnesses induced due to this clash are digestive and skin related.

How about your Bazi luck?  Here I generically discuss the major chart features that would create fortunes misfortunes for people.  

BAZY CHART FEATURES THAT YOU SHOULD WORRY ABOUT IN 2021

People who were born in the year of Ram (1943, 1955, 1967, 1979, 1991, 2003, 2015):  This means the year branch is clashed.  This is usually called "clashing Tai Sui or Grand Duke".

People who were born in 1955 (yi-wei, wood-ram) and 1967 (ding-wei, fire-ram):  This means the year pillar is fan-yin or the whole pillar is clashed from stem to branch. Parents or older relative may suffer.

Chart with yi-wei (wood-ram) or (ding-wei, fire-ram) in the month pillar:  This means the month pillar is fan-yin or the whole month pillar is clashed from stem to branch.  This usually jinxes the parents if chart owner (daymaster or DM) is under 60 years old.  If DM  is 60 or older, it has the possibility becoming the end signal of life because this is regarded as "clashing the dam".

Chart with yi-wei (wood-ram) or (ding-wei (fire-ram) in the day pillar:  This means the day pillar is fan-yin or the whole day pillar is clashed from stem to branch.   This means DM or DM's spouse may suffer major mishaps or separation.

Chart with yi-wei (wood-ram) or (ding-wei (fire-ram) in the hour pillar:  This means the hour pillar is fan-yin or the whole month pillar is clashed from stem to branch.   This means DM's children may suffer some mishaps.  If DM is female, she may suffer some reproductive related illnesses.

Chart already has wei-ram and xu-dog in the branches:  Adding this annual chou-ox will form a dreadful "3-penalties" to the system.  This is usually negative most of the time unless earth is favorable in the chart.  Serious illness or accident are more likely to DM's close relative or DM.

Chart with hai-pig and zi-rat AND or weak ding/ bing DM (or weak fire element in chart):  The addition of chou-ox forms a strong hai-zi-chou 3-meetings water combination that may extinguish the fire in the system.  This could be major fire-related illness (like heart or blood illness) or even death if this is a fire DM.

Chart with si-snake and you-rooster AND or weak jia/ yi DM (or weak wood element in chart):  The addition of chou-ox forms a strong si-you-chou 3-unities metal combination that may extinguish the wood in the system.  This could be major wood-related illness and accident (like liver/ gallbladder and traffic accident) or even death if this is a wood DM.

GOOD NEWS FOR CERTAIN GROUPS OF PEOPLE?

Chou-ox clashing wei-ram is not always negative.  It all depends on your Bazi chart composition.  Wei is the tomb or storage of wood element.  This fact gives some positive news for the following:

Metal DM (Geng and Xin-metal):  For metal DM, wei-earth is their wealth storage or tomb.  When it is "clashed open" by chou-earth, it could mean unlocking the hidden wealth s/he has.  Male metal DM has an extra bonus-- he or suddenly gets married after being single or widowed for ages.  This is due to wealth element also means spouse for male. 

Earth DM (Ji and Wu-earth):  For female earth DM, wei-earth is their power storage or tomb.  Power star stands for husband.  When it is "clashed open" by chou-earth, it could mean unlocking the hidden husband that she has and suddenly getting married after being single or widowed for ages.

Water DM (Wu and Gui-water):  For female water DM, wei-earth is her output storage or tomb.  Output star stands for children.  If this female DM has problem conceiving, she has better chance of giving birth to a baby this year  this "child storage" is "clashed open" by chou-earth.

Charts with earth being favorable:  (1). When wei-earth clashing chou-earth, it means more earth in the system.  It is positive for chart which likes earth.  But this clash may also clash open "dirty laundries" hidden in chou and wei-earth like illegitimate child or mistress too. (2)  If chart forms chou-xu-wei 3-penalties and earth is favorable, DM may get major promotion or becomes famous overnight.

Do not panic if your Bazi chart has the feature listed above because this discussion only looks at the effect of annual luck metal-ox and  does NOT take into consideration of the dynamic of your whole Bazi chart, especially the effect of your current 10-years-luck.   You need to consult a Bazi reader to ascertain if your chart has problems or great news this year.

Bazi: "Tears flow when there is a fan-yin or fu-yin" 返吟伏吟泪淋淋

There is a Bazi saying, "Tears flow when there is a fan-yin or fu-yin, hurting other people if not oneself". ( 返吟伏吟泪淋淋，不伤自身也损他人)

In Bazi, "fan-yin" occurs when there are two antagonistic pillars fighting on both stem and branch level in a chart or with a pillar from a luck period.  For example, a chart with Jia-zi pillar and there is Geng-wu pillar in the natal chart or from a luck period.

"Fu-yin" occurs when there are two identical pillars in a chart.  This will amplify the power of the elements in these pillars.  For example, a chart with Jia-zi pillar and there is another Jia-zi pillar in the natal chart or from a luck period.

In general, fan-yin is inauspicious because disasters or misfortune may occur to the daymaster (DM).  Fu-yin could be positive if the elements in the pillars are favorable.  But if unfavorable, will double the negativity.

Below are different types of fu-yin:

FU-YIN WITHIN THE NATAL CHART

1. Year- and month pillar fu-yin:  Dwindling ancestral fortune during DM's early years.  DM suffers during childhood.  Parents suffer misfortunes and legal problems.  Male DM may become a monk or priest.
2. Year- and day pillar fu-yin:  Both male and female DM jinx spouse severely.  DM should marry someone with the same birth year to avoid jinxing spouse.
3. Year- and hour pillar fu-yin:  DM jinxes senior generation and does not see grandparents alive.  DM will jinx his children during old age or lack karma with his children.
4. Month- and day pillar fu-yin:  DM jinxes close relatives with unstable marriage and emotions.  S/he is insecure with shaky family life.
5. Month- and hour pillar fu-yin:  DM has a fluctuating career that is stagnant and and facing obstacles.
6. Day- and hour pillar fu-yin:  DM has unstable marital life and lonesome during old age.  His/ her adult children seldom stay near him/ her. 

ANNUAL LUCK FU-YIN WITH NATAL CHART PILLAR

1. Annual luck pillar fu-yin year-pillar:  DM is not suitable for long trip/ traveling.  Everyone will have this year-pillar fu-yin when turning 61. 
2. Annual luck pillar fu-yin year-pillar:  DM's parents are at risk.  They should pay attention to both mental and physical health.
3. Annual luck pillar fu-yin year-pillar:  DM or spouse may have misfortune or losing wealth.
4. Annual luck pillar fu-yin year-pillar:  children may have misfortune or DM suffers misfortune during old age.  Pay attention to career or money management.

You can also decode more information from the fu-yin by analyzing the transformation stars ("10-gods") represented by the fu-yin pillars.

ANNUAL LUCK FU-YIN AND FAN-YIN WITH 10-YEARS-LUCK

1. Annual luck pillar fu-yin 10-years-luck-pillar:  Classic Bazi wrote "disaster strike at once" when this condition shows up.  However,  it is likely happen IF the fu-yin pillar elements are unfavorable ("annoying god").  If favorable, it will double the auspiciousness or benefits.
2. Annual luck pillar fan-yin 10-years-luck-pillar:  Two luck pillars fight against each other.  This could be major disasters in career or physical health/ body injury.

Bazi: Is a strong daymaster better than a weak one?

The first step of a Bazi reading is to determine if the client has a "strong" or "weak" daymaster (DM) by counting the supporting and non-supporting elements in the birth chart.  "Daymaster" is a term for describing the owner of a Bazi chart.

Unfortunately, the terms "strong DM" and "weak DM" seem to infuse value judgment to some clients.  They may think a "strong daymaster" is better than a "weak" one.

While there are some distinct personality and physical characteristics associated with strong and weak DM, they are by no means "better" or "worse" but "different". 

The ultimate yardstick to measure, regardless of DM strength ("weak" or "strong"), is if there are more favorable than unfavorable luck periods (10-years-luck) in a chart.  For example, the favorable elements of a strong metal person are non-supporting elements like fire, wood and water.  Unfavorable elements are supporting elements like metal and earth.

If this strong metal DM has mostly metal and earth luck periods, especially during his first few 10-year-luck periods, this DM will not have a good life.

On the other hand, if this is a weak metal DM, metal and earth are his favorable elements.  If his luck periods are mostly metal and earth luck, he will enjoy a good life despite being a weak DM.

Similar logic also apply to "chart quality".  One can have the chart of a king but with mostly unfavorable luck periods-- his life will not be better than a born humble person with favorable luck periods.  For examples, King Louis XVI was guillotined during the French Revolution and Tsar Nicholas II was assassinated in 1918.

"Good luck periods are more important than a good birth chart" is the saying in Bazi.

Could getting married change your luck? 结婚转运?

"Change luck" here means someone has less than average or low luck before marrying.  His/ her luck changes significantly after getting married.

In general, people who have low or below average luck during their teen and early adult life have strong unfavorable elements in the year and month pillar of their Bazi charts.  This is because year and month pillar represent these age periods and also family background.

In addition, more than likely, their first two or three10-years-luck periods are mostly unfavorable too. 

People who will get better luck after getting married IF their Bazi charts have the following features:

1.  Spouse star is favorable in the chart:  For male, the spouse star is wealth star (zheng-cai) and female is power star (zheng-guan).
2.  Spouse palace (day-branch) is favorable:  This means the element occupying spouse palace is favorable to the chart.

Of course, there are people with their luck changed for the better after marrying but does not have the above two features in their charts.  This is likely due to their 10-years-luck is favorable at time of marriage and is NOT attributed to the act of marrying.

Smart readers would figure out that the opposites of #1 and 2 in a chart mean worse (not better) luck after getting married!

Bazi questions on changing luck pillar

Note:  Below are some questions from "4P Bootcamp" discussion group.

Is the age in which the luck pillar changes Chinese age or western age?

It is based on solar calendar.  To calculate the first 10-years-luck (10YL), yang male/ yin female (based on birth year) count the number of days and hour from birthday/hour to next solar terms (3 days= 1yr, 1 Chinese hour= 10 days).  Yin male and yang female count the number of days and hour from birthday/hour BACKWARD to previous solar terms.  For detail calculation, consult your basic Bazi textbooks.

Some say Chinese and others say western (age). That can make a significant difference sometimes.

It is always presented using the stem of the first year of one's 10YL.  For example, my 10YL starts at every jia-year.....  This confusion is due to the way traditional Chinese method of counting age is different from westerners.  Chinese baby is already one year old when s/he is born.  Hence in some Chinese Bazi software, the year daymaster (DM) clashing Grand Duke is 12x+ 1 whereas Bazi software written by westerners is 12x.  Chinese way of counting the age of a dead person is even more bizarre-- the dead guy gets 3 bonus years-- one year each from heaven, earth and himself.  So if a person is dead at 68, his reported age of death would be 71 by the funeral home.

In the year of change, if it happens to be in the middle of the year, do the old/new pillar switch off/on or there's a mixing of energy for the whole year?

You separate the year, so you may have half a year in the old 10YL and another half in new 10YL.

When 10YL switches, good or bad things are likely to happen, especially if the switch is from one region to another or "changing corner luck" (from hot to dry, for example, from wei to shen (fire to metal region)-- if the new region is favorable (great!), if unfavorable (pray or take my "Destiny and Luck" course)

Events are more likely to happen in the beginning or end of a 10YL.  There is a saying about 10YL, "男怕交运，女怕脱运. Male is afraid of changing 10YL.  Female is afraid of the end of a 10YL."  

How soon will the new luck pillar be felt before the actual change takes place especially corner luck?

This is hard to say, but it is pretty common to see someone suddenly dies/suffers major mishaps or become filthy rich/ famous overnight when the annual luck or 10YL switches.   10YL is the "big environment".  Annual luck is the trigger.  Activation depends on, I guess, the differentials in strength between favorable/unfavorable elements.  If there is an overwhelming imbalance and/or 3+ branches got clashed, events may happen faster.

Checking the year of luck period switching is one way of looking for "actions" or possible fortune/ misfortune event that may happen.
