"Over-metaphysicalized person" 2022

NOTE:  This is an updated version of the same article written in 2011.

A "metaphysicalized person" is someone who uses metaphysics methods like Feng Shui, Bazi, ZWDS, Qi-Men-Dun-Jia,  date-selections, astrology, tarot cards, runes and the likes in some aspects of his or her daily life.

An "over-metaphysicalized person" is someone who will fine-tune every activity with metaphysics methods OR obsessed with maximizing the advantages from applying metaphysics to a major activity-- most likely in business or wealth enhancement aspects, interpersonal relationship or romance.  These people think that metaphysics is their ticket to solve all their worldly problems.

Because I teach Chinese metaphysics, some people thought that I have a magic wand or direct hot line to heaven.  They have requested me to help them move the slow-selling houses in an estate, selling a 50 feet yacht, defeating a spouse in divorce lawsuit, houses or even pushing up the margin call of stocks.

An average "metaphysicalized person" simply tries to enhance some aspects of his/her life with metaphysics whereas an "over-metaphysicalized person" attempts to get an upper-hand in almost every facet of life or in competitions for wealth.

I have clients who keep begging for new metaphysics techniques to enhance their wealth acquisitions.  I have told them that how much wealth one will acquire and enjoy is pre-destined.  By pushing for wealth, they may do "early withdrawal" from their life-time pre-determined wealth account.  They will die prematurely when their life-time account is drawn empty.  Check the following for a historical case:
Ken's Cyber Cave: Identical birthday and time, but one died earlier 祿盡人亡 (kenlaifengshui.blogspot.com)

You may not believe in this Buddhist view of wealth predeterminaton.  In Bazi or 4-Pillars, there is a term called "weak day-master cannot handle wealth".  Bazi classifies people into strong, balanced or weak "day-master".  People who belong to the "weak day-master" group cannot handle or enjoy big wealth when they are still "weak".  There are numerous stories about lottery winners' life got worse or even got killed after hitting the jackpot.

There are five major types of over-metaphysicalized persons:
1.  The successful business people:  These are the luckiest group who enjoy successes in their business with application of metaphysics.  But their appetite for metaphysics tricks keeps growing and becomes "metaphysics junkie".

2.  Business people who WERE successful and are low on luck now:  These people either fail to change with time and/or adapt to new business environment.  Their major problem is not metaphysics but personal problems.  They hope the metaphysics magic wand will turn their business around overnight.  I know a businessman who has built two "5-ghost carry wealth" and a few "water-dragons" in his house. But his business still "sucks" because the problem is people-problem.  The better one will use metaphysics to boost their confidence while the worse one will use metaphysics to justify their failures because of "bad luck" or "bad Feng Shui".

3.  Non-business people who WERE successful and are low on luck now:  Like the business counterparts, these people sometimes dwell on their past successes and fail to change or adapt to new realities. They will max out their credit cards to buy or attend new metaphysics courses/ seminars and hope to turn their luck around. These new courses will dig a deeper financial hole for them.  They also tend to justify their lack or action or failures on "bad luck " or "bad Feng Shui".

4.  The dream-chasers who believe metaphysics is their shortcut to wealth and fame:   This group of people are likely drawn by the claims of easy wealth, "abundance", "fulfillment", "financial freedom", "success" and similar slogans.  One common characteristic of this people is:  they keep searching for a "better mouse trap" (course or seminar) to achieve their dreams before they have thoroughly studied the courses already purchased.

5.  The "not-my-fault" people:   This group of people use metaphysical explanations, whether intentionally or unintentionally, to justify their actions/ non-actions or personal failures.  Justifications like "inauspicious date", "bad Feng Shui", "luck period clashing my Bazi", "bad QMDJ direction", "my energy does not get along with ....",  and the like are common.  There are numerous metaphysics methods and is not difficult to find one to justify or explain away an unpleasant incident or failure.

"Ken, do you mean metaphysics does not work?"

Of course, not every metaphysics method works or always work 100%.  But some methods like Feng Shui, Bazi, date-selection methods may enhance your goal-directed activities.  However, my personal bias is:  use metaphysics methods to avoid or keep bad things from happening to you.  Methods for wealth enhancements should be used sparingly or "unless you have to".

Metaphysics methods, especially the wealth enhancement ones, behave like anti-biotic, the more you use them, the less effective they become to your personal qi or energy field.  I use metaphysics methods to the max only for important occasions.  For everyday life, I just use my own natural qi or energy to handle the events.  It is better to develop your own energy defense (like medicine's self-immunity) than borrowing from metaphysics.

When you get some benefits from metaphysics, sooner or later, you will somehow pay back to the universe.  This is a simple law of karma.

How come the richest people are not Feng Shui masters? Part II

(Continue from previous article)
Classic Feng Shui Model

Returning to the original questions:

"What is Feng Shui for?"
Feng Shui is simply the knowledge of site selection and harmonious living and interaction between inhabitants and their natural environment.  Enhancing luck, wealth and etc. are NOT the original objectives of Feng Shui.  Increases in wealth and prosperity are "by-products" of stable living environment that shields its residents from  the elements and provides steady supply of living essentials like water and vegetation.  Feng Shui is similar to the modern "Human Geography"-- " the study of the interaction between human beings and their environment in particular places and across spatial areas." (Dictionary.com)

How much "weight" or importance is Feng Shui in one's destiny?

According to Yi-jing, the five most important determinants of an individual's destiny are:
  1. Fate (一命, ming)-- what one was born with, hard to change
  2. Luck (二运, luck)-- what one was born with with limited degree of flexibility
  3. Feng Shui  (三风水)-- one's living and social environment
  4. Accumulation of good deeds (四积阴德, yin-de)
  5. Formal Study (五读书)-- go to school

2017 Auspicious Wealth Symbols
From the above list, you can see luck and fate have more influence than Feng Shui.  More often than not, I found people with bad luck also have bad Feng Shui synchronized with it.

This is easy to explain as when one is in good luck, one will have strong energy or qi-field that can block off or reduce the effect of negative energy caused by variables like Feng Shui or Bazi.   One's energy will be weaken during a bad luck period.  Existing negative forces, including spiritual ones, can take advantage of the weaken state of the individual and attack.  This is why sometimes we feel "Blessing does not come in multiples and misfortune does not come alone".

"Could Feng Shui help us during our bad luck periods?"
It all depends on the nature of your "bad luck"-- whether it is karma-related or simply "system design" (destiny).  Assuming it is not karma-related, then Feng Shui at least keeps you physically healthy or "sane".

"If our luck periods are good, we don't need Feng Shui.  Isn't this correct?
Yes, this is my little secret with you.  However, people are likely to think their good luck lasts forever and are caught unprepared when bad luck strikes.

"So, if this is the case, then why do we bother with Feng Shui at all?" "If our luck periods are good, we don't need Feng Shui.  Isn't this correct?
You still need Feng Shui because no one has good luck periods forever.  No place has good Feng Shui forever too.

“If a client is in bad wealth luck period and requests wealth enhancement, the practitioner cannot do much with Feng Shui.”  Why?
To understand this statement, you need to know what causes "bad wealth luck" in Bazi.  It is likely either problem of strong peer stars (bi-jie) for strong daymaster or strong wealth stars (cai) for weak daymaster.  Enhancing wealth during a bad wealth luck period may cause more losses.

Fate and Destiny: Joe's Choice

Joe,  a friend of mine in Hong Kong,  always runs into bad luck with financial decisions.  He had lost his shirt when running a printing business many years ago.  Property price shot up after he had sold his house.  We check what stocks he bought and stay away from those stocks because the chance of price drops are very high.   Earthquake happened while he was in Japan a few months ago and got stuck there for a while.  We call him "Dark Dude" (黑仔 hēi zǐ)  because he always runs into bad luck with financial matters.

The male side of Joe's family has a history of dying at middle age (around 50).  Joe is approaching the big 50.  He wants to quit his job, travel the world and spend all his money before he dies.

"What happens if you do NOT die after you have spent all your money?"  I asked Joe.

"That probably is as worse as death -- I'll be penniless and homeless."  Joe replied.

Here are Joe's choices and possible outcomes:
1.  Do nothing and accept death at around 50 years old-- and died with money left
2.  Do nothing and accept death at around 50 -- and survived with money and job intact
3.  Quit job, travel the world and spend all money-- and died a happy man
4.  Quit job, travel the world and spend all money-- and survived as a homeless man

What choice will you advise him to take given his "track records" with his destiny?   What advice can you give him to improve his chance of surviving beyond 50?

Show me the money

In 2003, I had read the 4P chart of a friend's 6 year old boy.  The kid is a strong jia-wood day-master with wealth and output elements in both stems and branches.  It is a good "shi-shang (output) produces wealth" profile.  The only problem is metal (control) is very weak and only shows up in hidden elements.

I told the boy that he will be rich when he grows up.  Even at the age of 6, this kid seemed to understand the concept of "rich".  He told his mother, "I will buy a big mansion and won't let you (parents) live with me."   His mother was really irritated.

Now this boy is 14 and cannot part with his IPad for more than 5 minutes.  He plays with it even during dinner and updates his Facebook page continuously.
Unfortunately, his mother is also a Facebook addict.

Anyway, his mother worries about the boy's lack of interest in academic learning and anything that is regarded as "work".  He thinks he will be rich and therefore no need to work hard at all.

"Ken, your 4P reading made him think money will fall from the sky into his pocket.  Could you come and tell him that he has to WORK for the money?"  My friend said.

I have similar experience with other 4P clients.  They got excited to know that they have a wealth luck coming.  But they just waited and did nothing.  Of course,  money will not knock at their doors.  Then they blame the messenger--- the 4P reader.

When your 4P shows that you have a wealth luck coming, it just means you will have a better chance of making money than usual IF you are actively doing something to make money.  Heaven will not throw money at you if you just sit down, wait and do nothing.

God helps those who help themselves.

It is a practice-oriented course with all the business forms and templates for someone like you to run it as a "helping business".

These two courses can be seen as "applied 4P" that empowers people to take charge of their destiny and refuse to be the pawns of the Gods or slave of destiny.

Both courses will cost US$1998 plus $30 shipping (you only pay shipping once when shipped together)

Here are the two pre-order specials:  (subject to quantity requirement, all pre-orders will be canceled if there are not enough takers).

Sorry, there is no special offer for ordering just one course.

Note:  Discount does not include shipping.  You do not need to buy remedial products or cures from me if you want to.  The course will show you how to create your own.  Estimated delivery time is 6- 8 weeks after receiving payment.

Questions & Answers on "Feng Shui and 4P"

Below is taken from a message from my “4P Bootcamp” discussion list.

Hi Ken and others,

Student Comment: It appears that feng shui has an influence at least on people’s personality. I observed people living in different areas of the country or world behave differently.

Ken: Yes, there are regional difference in macro Feng Shui which affect not only the personality but also physical appearance of the people there. For example, people born in China’s Soo Zhou and Hang Zhou regions, where water and mountains are pretty, tend to be physically attractive too, not to mention there are many famous scholars and poets born in those areas in the past thousand years or so.

Then we have micro level Feng Shui that affect individual households. From my experience, I found that personal luck is likely to synchronize with Feng Shui . I told people if they feel their current luck is great, then fire the Feng Shui master and just grab a house. It will have good Feng Shui . But if you feel your current luck is low, you need to find a Feng Shui guy to help you.

Some people intentionally or unintentionally overblow the power of Feng Shui. Feng Shui's basic premise is to live in harmony with nature. Everything else are just by-products. It does not intend to make you rich, to have good relationship, to beat recession or not getting sick. Even His Holiness Delai Lama gets sick from time to time and consults a doctor. The richest man in the world is not a Feng Shui master. In fact, many famous Feng Shui masters in history died poor. What did these mean? One's fate or destiny is more important than Feng Shui, not to mention personal cultivation and behaviors that also affect one's karma and luck.

Student Comment: My question is: does Feng Shui influence one’s luck?

Ken: Yes, a Hong Kong sifu of mine had found that people with good Feng Shui , when they have traffic accident, their injury will be minimized or not severe. Another study in Taiwan about air-crash victims showed that their house Feng Shui tend to have problem like void line (no qi or energy coming into the house).

So it seems that the relationship between Feng Shui and 4-Pillars is like this: if personal luck is bad, good Feng Shui will mitigate the negative effect. If one has good luck but his house Feng Shui is bad, the negative effect will not be as severe or mitigated. With bad personal luck and bad Feng Shui — your life will be very challenging.

There are people who do not believe in San-sha (3-killings) and 5-yellow and dug in those areas and bragged about nothing negative happen. It did not happen YET because their current luck is probably on the high side.

The negative effect may come a few years later— when your luck is low! Few people can enjoy good luck all the time.

Some years ago Taiwan’s China Airline had a crash with many of its executives killed on-board. Taiwan Feng Shui masters had traced back that the company had violated San Sha a few years ago when they built their new headquarters.

Student Comment: For example,  why there are more countries that suffer poverty, famine, and war than developed nations?

Ken: This has to do with the “earth luck” of those regions. It switches according to the lao-shu (post-heaven bagua) theoretically. For example, now is Period 8 and the auspicious region will be NE of any country or NE of the world.

Student Comment: Does it mean good 4P charts and bad charts are not evenly distributed around the world?

Ken: There is no study done about the distribution of good and bad 4P charts. There are about a few hundred babies born every minute around the world with the same 4P charts. Of course, they will not have same luck and life experience. Different geography and birth environments (including social class background) will affect people with same 4P chart differently.

There is a 4P story about two babies born at the same time– one was born on a ship and another born in the shop of a blacksmith. The one born on water became a major government official while the blacksmith’s son become a blacksmith. Then someone move this blacksmith son to the capital and study. He became an official too.

Their natal chart liked water. Temperature adjustment in a 4P chart is very important. Very often, the difference between a rich man and a very rich man is the latter has temperature adjustment.

Student Comment: Majority of people in a 3rd world country are born with bad charts, or the ones with good charts managed to leave the country, or the ones born with good charts will have bad luck as well if they live in a city/country with bad Feng Shui?

Ken: Everything is relative. What’s considered “poor” here may sound like paradise in some other countries. The “poor” in USA still have cable TV and steady supply of food– compare this lifestyle to some third world poor, it is not bad at all. I don’t think majority of people in third world countries born with bad charts, just the ones with “good” charts may suffer less.

Personally I think your “yun” or luck periods are more important than your Bazi natal chart and Feng Shui . When you are in good luck period, you can pick a house with good Feng Shui with your eyes blindfolded.

To conclude, 4P interacts with Feng Shui , geography (hot or cold climate), birth environments, your personal choices and perhaps, your past lives too (if you believe in Buddhism).

Student Comment:
I ask this because people are always looking to change aspects of their lives i.e.) better job opportunities, less stressful life, etc. by moving to a different area. But is it really helpful?

Ken: Yes, if your chart dislikes fire and you live in say, Malaysia (hot area), your luck will be better if you move to Minnesota (cold place). I have tested this out myself!

Can we change Destiny?

Note: The following was written on June 11, 2002

Before I start, I must say that it is very difficult to change destiny. One can only minimize/ maximize fortune/misfortune thru Feng Shui, hardwork and charity work. So if someone tell you to build a water dragon in your home without looking at your 4P, the person probably wants to make $5000+ from you more than helping you to make wealth.

A Russian immigrant in Minnesota had won a $8 Million lottery in 1996 and at the same year the got cancer and died a few days ago.
A woman had won the 10+ million Quarter Mania jackpots in Las Vegas and ran into a car accident and become paralyzed.

You may have heard similar cases that someone made big bucks and died suddenly.

More than likely, the day-masters of these people are weak to handle wealth. Sudden huge wealth actually is bad for them.

I may have sidetracked.

For a weak water person, assuming earth and wood are your worst elements ("annoying gods"), then metal and water are your favorite ones.

Since metal is NW and W, so preferably you sleep or sit facing this 2 directions. North in theory is water and good for you. But other school of Feng Shui says that facing north will turn you into an idiot or getting sick, so avoid N.

Also avoid going East (wood), center, NE (earth) and SW (earth) side of the country or directions.

If you were born in summer, then you should avoid South (fire). If you were born after autumn, then fire may be OK.

I doubt if you can add metal to energies your day master. Metal in this case is just an abstraction of the energy, just like you are not a sack of water. You will be drowning if you can't swim even though you got water as your day master.

Also doing charity work or blood donation may help too.

To grow a money tree

Note: The following was written on Jun 22, 2004

If I tell a non-Feng Shui person to "plant" $1000 on the ground and grow a money tree that will give him one million dollars in a few months, he will call me a nut for sure.
Imagine what he will say if I tell him my Feng Shui class will make him a billionaire or millionaire.

Any Feng Shui tricks that claim to make a billionaire/ millionaire out of ANY person without looking at his/ her 4-pillars are highly probably fakes. Not every destiny can handle big wealth, esp. for people with weak day-masters.
Still not believe? You can check how did the descendants of great Feng Shui masters in Chinese history fare in terms of wealth and fame. Most of them vanished without a trace in history.
How about the emperors of China, who had the services of imperial Feng Shui masters? They were beaten up by the foreign powers and overthrown by their own people in 1911.
Shouldn't the people of Hong Kong and Taiwan be more prosperous than the US folks, after all, they utilize Feng Shui more than any other countries in the world?
Feng Shui is NOT the determining factor in one's destiny or a country's destiny. It serves as a catalyst/ enhancer or buffer/ reducer of fortune or misfortune.
The primary goal of Feng Shui is to live in-sync with nature and not making money. Making unsubstantiated claims will degrade Feng Shui into the ranks of street-level fortune-tellers or jokes for comedians.

4P of Pope John Paul II

Note: The following was written on April 2, 2005

Pope John Paul II has passed at 21:37 today (April 2, 2005). He
was one of the most outstanding Popes in history with a very
dramatic life.

TV news have continuous coverage on Pope's life in the last few
days, covering from his childhood to adulthood, giving us quite
a few clues on the Feng Shui of his early home and also
historical events that we can used to study his 4P.

A TV news report about the church that Pope went during his
childhood . It said Pope's childhood home is virtually under the
shadow of that church.

Chinese FS advises against people living too close to temple or church.

Pope had an older sister died before he was born in 1920. His
mother had died when he was eight. Then his older brother had
died when he was 12, leaving only him and his father.

He was hit by a car or carriage around 1944.

This is the 4P chart of the Pope. The hour is estimated by me
based on events happen:

Birthday: May 18, 1920

Year: Geng-shen (metal-metal)
Month: Xin-si (metal-fire)
Day: Bing-zi (fire-water)
Hour: Ji-chou (earth-earth)

Day void branch: shen and you
Year void branch: zi and chou

10 year luck periods:

1926 ren-wu (water-earth)
1936 gui-wei (water-water)
---------------------------fire region above
1946 jia-shen (wood-metal)
1956 yi-you (wood-metal)
1966 bing-xu (fire-earth)
-------------------------metal region above
1976 ding-hai (fire-water)
1986 wu-zi (earth-water)
1996 ji-chou (earth-earth)
---------------------------water region above
2006 geng-yin (metal-wood)-- beginning of wood region

Today's chart when Pope died:

Year: Yi-you (wood-metal)
Month: Ji-mao (earth-wood)
Day: Bing-chen (fire-earth)
Hour: Ji-hai (earth-water)

Pope's chart is not easy to read or classify.

I'm not going do a detail analysis here, but leave
enough info for you to do it yourself. This should be
a good learning experience, not just for 4P, but learning
about the life of a great man.

Pope is a pretty weak bing-fire.

The void branches match his life experience pretty well.

You can get hints from the 10 years luck period, to find out
the possible favorable elements (yong shen) for him. For example,
Pope first 20 years of life was filled with tragedies-- his 10
year luck periods was in the fire region. So we know fire is
probably not good for him even though he is a weak bing fire, which is
contrary to common logic.

Then his life had improved in metal region and become Pope in
water region..... and has passed before entering wood region.

He had very strong "guan" or career/ power luck in his older
years.

Then you can match events happened down to individual annual luck
periods. I've found quite a few major events matching his annual
luck pillars. You can easily find Pope's major life events from
CNN news archive or search the web for the bio of Pope John Paul II.

I hope this 4P exercise will also let you to learn more about this
great Pope.

Good Cop Died Young

Note: The following blog was written on May 12, 2005

A local popular cop Sgt. Gerald Vick was shot and
killed while on duty in May 6. 2005. I've enclosed a
newspaper report of his life history at the end of
this msg.

He had saved at least 3 lives plus numerous good deeds
beyond his call of duty to help young delinquents and
prostitutes return to normal life.

My question is, why a good fellow with so many good
karma credits died at the young age of 41? Here is
his 4P:

year: gui-mao (water-wood)
month: geng-shen (metal-metal)
day: ding-you (fire- metal)
hour: xin-hai (metal-water)

current year luck: yi-you (wood-metal)
current 10 year luck: bing-chen (fire-earth)

10 Year lucks:
1968 ji-wei
1978 wu-wu
1988 ding-si
1998 bing-chen
2008 yi-mao
2018 jia-yin

This is a weak ding-fire DM with too much wealth
(metal) and being attacked by guan-sha (water).
Fortunately, pian-yin mao wood converts water into
energy source for ding fire (water produce wood, wood
produce fire) instead of extinguishing ding fire. So
wood is the favorable element or useful god for this
chart.

However, this is a weak favorable element. It has no
back up when being clashed.

Currently DM is in bing-shen 10 year luck. Bing-fire
was tied up with xin metal in hour pillar (can't
transform to water). Chen earth combines with you
metal at day branch to form metal.

Annual luck is yi-you. Yi wood combines with month
stem geng metal to form metal (so more wealth to drain
ding fire). Annual you metal clashes away mao wood,
the only favorable element of the whole chart. Then
suddenly, all the water rushes to attack DM instead of
producing wood. THIS IS THE KEY TO HIS DEATH.

Let's see the 4P of the day when he died:

year: yi-you (wood-metal)
month: xin-si (metal-fire)
day: geng-yin (metal-wood)
hour: ding-chou (fire-earth)

This is a very strong metal day. Metal is the
unfavorable element of the DM. If you look at the
branches of DM's 4P chart, this chart and 10 year
luck, you will see all the 4 branches are either
clashed or combined away. When all 4 branches of a
chart are shaken, death is normally the case.

If Sgt. Vick had made it through this 10 year luck,
the next 20 years are all wood lucks-- his favorable
element. Life is not fair.

There are also Feng Shui aspects in this case, but
this msg will get too long. I save it for my classes.

The following report is from www.startribune.com,
about the heroic life of Sgt. Vick.

==================================================

A life cut short was rich in humor, heroics and quiet
service to others
Curt Brown, Star Tribune
May 12, 2005 VICK0512.PROFILE

Lillie Weldon, for one, is glad Sgt. Gerald Vick left
his job as a prison guard 15 years ago to become a St.
Paul police officer. He simply made more of a
difference on the front lines of law enforcement than
at the other end, Weldon said.

Weldon, 73, was among more than a thousand mourners
who turned out for Vick's funeral Wednesday. While
others remembered his sense of humor, childhood antics
and police heroics, she recalled how Vick turned
around her grandson.

Weldon lives behind the now-defunct Badger Lounge, a
notorious joint on University Avenue. While working a
robbery case a few years ago, Vick persuaded Joseph
Weldon to leave the world of juvenile delinquency
behind.

"Sgt. Vick called him up and kept talking to him,
telling him he could do better and didn't have to be
living like this," Weldon said. "My grandson is now at
Fisk University in Tennessee, thanks to Sergeant Vick,
who was such a nice, respectful man."

Gerald Vick a North St. Paul native, never
second-guessed his career change from guard at the
maximum-security Oak Park Heights prison to police
officer.

"I think he was driven to be a cop, like a calling,"
said Sgt. Joe Flaherty, who was Vick's training
officer when he was hired in 1989. "You could tell
right away that Jerry had incredible talent.

He had this sixth sense."

Vick's two years as a prison guard in the 1980s helped
shape the decorated police officer he would become.

"His unassuming personality served us well, and he
would often give our inmates the benefit of the
doubt," Deputy State Corrections Commissioner Dennis
Benson said. "There's no question that a little time
at the other end of the system really gives you
insights into becoming a better and more effective
police officer."

His early years Vick grew up as the youngest of four
kids, making him a bit spoiled, family members say.
They recalled this week how he would often urge his
mother, Margaret, to give him some change to buy
treats at a local store.

When she resisted, he would lift her up until her head
hit the ceiling and spin her around until she coughed
up a buck.

"He was exuberant about life and all it had to offer,"
said the Rev. Mona Anderson, who eulogized Vick after
five days of listening to family stories.

Among the tales swapped this week were how Vick earned
his dimple wrestling with the family's wiener dog and
how he once built a parachute out of garbage bags to
fly out off a barn loft. The Halloween he raided his
mother's closet and took a tight-fitting dress, as
well as a couple of apples, has become family lore.

Vick's babysitting career coincided with an
all-conference football career at North St. Paul High
School. He would stroll through the Maplewood Mall
carrying his baby niece, Crystal, hoping his tender
side would attract girls.

Vick married his wife, Connie, during his stint as a
prison guard.

When friends later teased her about her husband's
undercover work arresting prostitutes, she would often
quip: "I didn't marry a cop. I married a prison
guard."

Despite his long hours, Vick was a regular at his
14-year-old son Clayton's hockey games and 11-year-old
Amanda's soccer and softball games in Afton.

Police heroics It didn't take long for Vick to start
drawing praise after joining the St. Paul police
force. In 1990, he crawled through thick smoke and
found a 15-month-old girl unconscious, handing her out
of a window and going on to search for more victims.
He won a Medal of Valor for that.

In 1995, he and his partner, Matthew Toupal, beat the
paramedics to a call from a non-English-speaking woman
giving birth on the East Side. The baby's umbilical
cord was wrapped its neck. Vick's calm demeanor was
credited for saving a new life.

Vick confronted an armed robber in 1997 in a
stairwell. When the suspect raised a silver handgun
from his waistband, Vick shot and killed him. When he
was given another Medal of Valor for his actions, he
politely requested no ceremony or publicity about the
honor.

Three months later, Vick and Toupal persuaded a
delusional man to go to the hospital rather than jump
off the Kellogg Boulevard bridge.

Last year, Vick was credited with foiling a series of
more than 50 bar robberies. When the Frontier Bar was
hit on Front Street, he guessed the bandit would head
north. He was right, and the suspect -- who was
carrying a .357 Magnum revolver -- was apprehended
after a foot chase.

Fighting prostitution
For the past few years, Vick had led an uncover team
that tried to reduce prostitution on city streets as
well as consensual gay sex going in Crosby Park along
the Mississippi River.

Many of the women he had arrested were at the funeral,
recounting through tears how he had treated them with
respect, and how much he'll be missed.

Not all the women were grateful, though, according to
Therese Skarda, deputy of the city attorney's criminal
division. When one prostitute vowed that Vick would
never arrest her again, he returned to headquarters,
borrowed a bicycle, donned a wig and made the arrest.
Another time, Vick arrested a john who rode his bike
from Minneapolis to buy sex from an undercover decoy.
When Vick was placing the suspect in the squad car,
the handcuffed man asked Vick to lock up his bike for
him.

"Sure," Vick said, laughing. "This is a first."

Many times, Vick would convince the women mired in
prostitution that they deserved a better life and give
them some supportive words instead of a trip to jail.

"He called me last week and said: 'You're going to be
mad at me,'" Skarda said. "He decided not to book
someone because she'd be better off out of jail. I
always trusted his discretion. He never stopped
balancing the right and wrong."

Death of Croc Hunter and 4P

Note: The following blog was written on Sept. 5, 2006.

Australian legend Steve Irwin was killed on Monday
when he was stabbed in the chest by a stingray barb.

Here is his 4P chart, the hour is my "guesstimate" .

YEAR : Ren- yin (water tiger)
MONTH: Ren- yin (water tiger)
DAY : Xin- mao (metal rabbit)
HOUR: Ji-chou (earth ox)

10-year luck: Ding-wei (fire ram)
Annual luck: Bing-xu (fire dog)

A quick look of this chart, even without checking for
yong-shen or ji-shen (useful and annoying gods), can
see the guy is in trouble...

-- Annual and 10-year luck brought in tons of fire
(hidden or "gong" yin-wu-xu fire 3-unity)
-- 10YL Ding fire combines with the two Ren to form
wood, fueling the fire even further. It also removes
the water that was keeping fire from becoming too
strong.
-- Annual Luck Bing fire tried to combine with DM Xin
metal. But the month branch is not water and so no
combination occurred. Instead Bing fire attacks Xin
DM.
-- Annual luck branch Xu combines with day branch mao
to form FIRE--- more fire
-- Based on the freakiness of the accident, it looks
like the work of a 3-penalties (sudden,
unanticipated) . If my hour guess is correct, then
there is a chou-wei-xu 3-penalties for 2006.

The overall picture of this chart is Xin metal (Steve)
was burning from top to bottom.

The 4P chart when Steve was killed:

YEAR: Bing- xu (fire dog)
MONTH: Bing-shen (fire monkey)
DAY : Bing-shen (fire monkey)
HOUR: Gui-si (water snake)

This chart adds:
-- 4 more fire elements plus a fire storage
-- two bing-shen knocks out (fan-yin) the year and
month pillar of Steve's chart
-- shen-yin-si forms another 3-penaltie, making him
suspectible to unexpected disaster.

Maybe he could have escaped fate if he had delayed his
work by 2 hours (bypass si hour).

However, the next day (today) is ding-you, which
fan-yin his day pillar. It will not be pretty for him
either.

If you notice, he has just changed 10YL in 2006. In
4P, male charts tend to have more changes during the
first year of a new 10YL and for female, it is the
last year of 10YL that has more changes.

I've noticed that current year Bing-xu has created
many problems for people with 2+ tigers (yin wood) in
their charts. These are mostly serious health
problems like cancer.

It is because bing-xu can "gong" or from indirect
fire-3-unity combinations. With 2+ tigers in a chart,
it is not difficult to have 2+ fire-unity
combinations. Too much fire in a chart can induce
cancer easily.

Fire has the strange property of making all other
elements suffer: too much fire can evaporate water,
melts metal, drains wood and parches earth...

I've written a much longer msg with detailed
explanations. But somehow it got "lost" when I tried
to send it out. I guess it is heaven's way to tell me
shutting up.

Please pray for Steve to go to other side, as people
with unexpected death normally have their souls stuck
on earth for ages, not knowing that they were already
dead.

Talisman story

I was in Mexico City last weekend to teach my second
Daoist Talisman class there.

In the class, the mother of a student (let's call him
Lopez) has terminal cancer and asked me for a favor--
draw a talisman for his mom.

I'd brought some Medicine Buddha healing cards which
are blessed and activated by me personally. But all
the students want one and I do not have enough. So I
have conducted a lucky draw. The chance of winning is
50%.

I want to give heaven a test...

The result is very strange and clear-cut. All the
students surrounding (left/right, front/back) Lopez
won one, except him. In fact, 4 out of 5 seats in
his row had won one, EXCEPT him.

Heaven has spoken clearly.

I gave him two talismans anyway-- one for his mom to
carry around for protection and another for ingestion.

I'm waiting for heaven's thunderbolt to strike.

I'll go back to Mexico City to teach Imperial QMDJ
next week, just in case heaven wants me to be punished
there.

BTW, QMDJ does not believe in fate. Everyday is a
good day except the hour and direction may not be
always good.
