Give a little and gain a mountain?

A Buddhist disciple had called a master on the phone and complained,
"I have worked hard and still not achieved much, why?  I have chanted mantra and done good deeds, but my destiny has not changed."
一位佛友電話抱怨道：為什麼我努力了還是得不到？念經行善了，命運卻不變？

Master: "Let me give you $500, is this OK?"
法師：我給你寄五百塊錢，好不好？

Disciple:  "Master, I dare not take your money!"
佛友：師父，你的錢我不敢要呢！

Master:  "I want you to help me do one thing."
法師：我是要你幫我辦一件事。

Disciple: "Master, tell me what you want and I will absolutely do it perfectly for you!"
佛友：師父，你說辦什麼，我絕對幫你辦好！

Master:  "Please buy a car for me."

法師：幫我買一輛汽車。

Disciple (surprisingly):  "Master, you cannot buy a car with $500!"

佛友(驚呀地)：師父，五百塊怎麼能買到汽車呢？！

Master:  "You also know one cannot get a car for $500?"
法師：你知道五百塊買不到汽車？！


Revelation:
There are many people in this world trying to give a little to get a lot in return.  Obviously, this is not quite possible.
啟 示：
世上有太多的人都在絞盡腦汁，只想付出一點點，就得到很多。而這，顯然是不太可能的

Ken's comment:  This story is applicable to any religion or even events.  For example, someone admires the income of a medical doctor but does not have the patience or put in the effort needed to go through many years of medical school training.  I have some people pleading for spiritual help but are not willing to put in the time and effort to get them out of their predicament.  They want instant good luck with little effort or simply hearing good news.  The universe is fair (in the long run).  You get what you put in.

"It's a bird! It's a plane! No, it's ........"

Some people think Feng Shui master is a superman. They expect him/her to solve most if not all their problems.

Sometimes people think that a Feng Shui master is God or at least has a direct phone line to God. They ask him/ her to enhance their wealth through Feng Shui remedies, solve their relationship problems, children's academic problems, job-seeking, health problems or even weight-loss.

If you have an Asia-based email address, you probably have received tons of "Feng Shui for Anything Seminar" email ads. It brags about a fast-talking Feng Shui master can teach you to do anything with Feng Shui-- for power, wealth, relationship......

Well, have you ever wondered why the world's richest person is not a Feng Shui master?

While everything may somehow related to Feng Shui, but using Feng Shui to fix or enhance every thing may not be the most cost-effective way.

You can walk to Rome or fly to Rome. Feng Shui is good for problems that are directly related to your residence or properties. Indirect problems should be handled by professionals in the special areas concerned.

If you have money problem, go find a job or a financial planner or a loan officer. Money won't fall from sky into your hands if you sit on your ass and do nothing. I know a guy who has 2 water dragons and three 5-ghost-carry-money setups and still having money problem-- because he just sits and waits.

If you have relationship problem, go see a family counselor or Dr. Phil.

If you were chronically sick and the problem is not Feng Shui related, go see a health professional.

Feng Shui practitioners should not masquerade as financial planners, Abbey, motivational talkers, medical doctors or the like. Elevating Feng Shui as a magic bullet or answer to every problem in life will hurt the discipline in the long run. It heightens people's expectation on Feng Shui which is more than likely, resulting in frustration.

Feng Shui is not the master-key or solution to all the worldly problems or it would have been the compulsory requirement for graduation for all the universities.

The basic premise of Feng Shui is to live in harmony with nature. It is not a church or temple for you to plea for wealth, power, relationship .......

Never mind the dogs, BEWARE of the owner

The following was written on July 20, 2007

"Never mind the dogs, BEWARE of the owner!" My neighbor across the street put up this sign in his
backyard.

A good doctor should not get sick and live forever or s/he is a lousy doctor.

In reality, doctors gets sick and die eventually just like everybody else.

A good Chinese metaphysics teacher (FS and 4P included) should be free of the misfortunes (sickness,
divorce, partnership dispute...) or s/he is not a good one.

In reality, Chinese metaphysics teachers are just like anybody else, suffer the misfortunes of life.  At most
they may be able to minimize it or avoid it to a certain extent.  They will die just like everybody
else.

It seems that some people place high expectation on metaphysics teachers--- they should be spiritual,
infallible, do not eat, giving profound knowledge away for free or charge next to nothing, no divorce, no
sickness, no partnership split, no employee problem, have male descendants to carry their lineage, should
be rich, should be humble (better if they kiss your ass) and wash your feet.

In short, they should be as holy as Delai Lama.

Metaphysics teachers are no more holier or dirtier than whatever you are doing for a living.  Like other
commercial or business behaviors, they advertise or boast like crazy to attract customers (or students).
Few would make a living if they shut up and waiting for students to come.

It is up to you to decide if you want to shell out your hard-earned dollars to them.  They do not force
you to give them money.

Free market mechanisms will sooner or later drive out the ones who do not meet consumer's needs and
expectation.

If you rarely or will not buy anything from these teachers, why should you worry or angry about what
they do or say?
